Re: Future Lemons Candidates

Suzuki Forenzas seem like a good candidate.  They're already showing up in junkyards.

It's very easy for me to see Toyota Matrices/Pontiac Vibes running in 24HoL in 2 or 3 years.  If someone can enter a Prius...the sky's the limit.

Re: Future Lemons Candidates

First gen CTS. By then we will be past the 3rd or 4th iteration, and the 2014 model has moved up in both size and intended market, attempting to compete with the Merc E and BMW 5.

I am having visions of a wrecked first gen CTS-V, stripped of its expensive motive force, LeMonized and refitted with /6 goodness...

I second whoever mentioned the VW Phaeton. There should be a Phaeton W12 loophole somewhere. Just be sure to put all that interior (and four-zone automatic climate control) back in once you're done caging it.

Which V6? I had the 250 hp version in an SXT (future: Team SeXToy?) and it had plenty of power on the grade on Hwy 62 from Palm Springs to the 3200' level in Yucca Valley.

Re: Future Lemons Candidates

It was the 3.5, I moved back from Australia where I drove  V6 VE commodore and found the Magnum underwhelming in comparison.
The dodge V6 engines will make for some interesting engine swaps in the future, there are a shit ton of them out there and they seem reliable enough to be cheap in a few years.

Re: Future Lemons Candidates

Whoever made the decision to put that 2.7-liter boat anchor in the Magnum/Charger/300 should be slapped with a gift-wrapped brick. I drove a base Magnum once and I swear I was losing speed going up a semi-steep tunnel exit, even with the gas pedal pressed against the firewall. The 3.5 isn't too terribly bad.

Re: Future Lemons Candidates

I test drove a 2.7 felt downright dangerous trying to merge into highway traffic.

I die a little inside whenever I see one.

I'm also looking forward to the first Lemons BMW X6.

Mazda frames and bodies might not hold up so well - Mazda6s and Proteges in particular seem to suffer from premature rust issues.

Re: Future Lemons Candidates

Shoot, I didn't realize the Chrysler V6 used to be so horrible. The 3.6 they're using now supposedly puts out 300 HP. I don't know how reliable they are, though.

I think the last generation Oldsmobile have some potential and should be hitting Lemons money about now. There are a bunch of little things on those cars that Oldmobile did that will help in Lemons but not in sales.  For instance Baffled oil pans not going to move a car off the lot but can keep a car moving on the track.   Not sure if the Aurora V8 has all the northstar issues but the shortstar version was almost as fast but lighter and better fuel mileage which may make it the better one to have anyway and was in the Intrigue and 2nd gen Aurora's.  The Alero 4 cylinder is ready for a bolt on supercharrger or turbo, can't remember which but eitherway forced induction always it good right?

The Turbo imprezas and evos are going to replace the camaro's as fast till the blow up, especially with all the go even faster parts people can get for them although I would love to see someone lower one of the old boxy foresters and run that.  The early turbo ones had the lowest output engine, so it may be more reliable after you upgrade the intercooler.

I do believe most newer cars are going to have a lot of issues due to electronics that are going to drive teams nuts, especially since now they all will go into limp mode while the older ones would maybe flash a light and keep going.

I completely overlooked the Olds and their baffled pans...

Beside the aforementioned Forenzas, the now-homeless family of four wheel Suzukis has a glorious future in Lemons.

Was this ever sanctioned?

Re: Future Lemons Candidates

It was not and that’s a damn travesty. “Phaeton” is almost “phantom”...why not a Phaeton loophole for for the race closest on the calendar to Halloween?  Seriously, show up with a Phaeton and no one is giving you static for nothing.

Reading this thread 6.5 years later and I’m happy to see that the oddballs and interesting are still prolific enough to keep the Legion 2.7 Litres of Mopar Mediocrity at bay, mostly.

I agree. I think the Fiesta/2 might fit into the same niche of Lemons as the 1990s Escort/Protege/323/ZX2.

I have a VW Phaeton W12 as a daily driver.  I really want to race it but I just can bring myself to do it.  Its such a nice luxury car. Parts are a bear to find.  Completely stripped it would be lightish with over 400 hp bone stock.  The parts are worth big $$$ so you could get really good upgrades or just simpler replacements.  If someone could find a way to make it run without all the sensors the car could really really dominate.
