Topic: Let's admire all the past Index Of Effluency winners!

So a GM-built car has never taken the overall win at a Lemons race (unless you count a badge-engineered Suzuki Swift with a Honda engine as a GM car), but you can see here that The General has a decisive advantage when it comes to the Index Of Effluency: 7 out of 18 IOE winners over the history of Lemons have been GM products!

BMW comes in second place, with 3 IOE trophies. We're sure they're quite proud of that accomplishment in Munich.

Re: Let's admire all the past Index Of Effluency winners!

huh. I would tend to think that the 97-03 Grand Prix SE (woo 3.1L!) wouldn't qualify for nomination in the index. What brought that choice on?

Only 1 UK car? Have no others ever finished. Well, actually that seems rather believable.

The Pontiac blew a head gasket and whistle blew the block during Friday practice.  They "fixed" the block and head with JB Weld and finished the race in 5th.

They also participated in the optional Saturday-night drag race on their JB-welded block, then came back on Sunday to finish in the top five.--Nick

Plenty of British cars have finished. Maybe they had to take some breaks during the race, but they've finished. Several Jaguars, a couple of MGBs, a Sprite, a few TR7s.

So when will an MR2 win the IOE? When one finishes the race running? If we can crack the top 10 with one of our cursed "Japanese Fieros" do we have a shot? Is their reputation that bad?

Fear the posing monkey!

The MR2 has no chance at IOE. We've had a couple of them finish in the top 5, so they're not terrible enough.

What about with a motor swap?
We got almost 2 hours (total not at one go) out of our turbo celica motor. What is less reliable than that?

I can easily recall the Subaru SVX @ CMP 08. iirc, they ran 6 laps. Also, I believe that the first ever minivan entry in Lemons blew up being pulled off the trailer...

I'm sure murilee can go on, but in a nutshell, I personally feel that it is -VERY- unlikely to be in IOE contention with a Toyota. Suzuki or Nissan? to be sure. Honda, difficult but not impossible.

I don't expect to ever win IOE with a P71 or a Buick. either of them could be really crummy but still have a fair shot of finishing.

Re: Let's admire all the past Index Of Effluency winners!

An MR2 will never win IOE. Nor will a P71. A Buick, sure! When is someone going to bring a Reatta?

hahah, don't tempt me. I'd prolly try to put the 3800 out of the LeSabre in it though.
