Re: So what are those Gnomes doing anyway??
Oh we're still special. As in short bus, special needs, special.

I was always impressed with the engineering aspect of the MetroGnome Geo. Just saying though, I was expecting more... sizzle? I'd love to see some test runs once you get a new plant in that little roller skate of yours.
OK folks. Our latest round of sales proved a success and we are now in the black as far as the engine goes. There are a few items that we purchased to install it that I still have to add up and there are still a few parts left to sell as well. Check the Blog for details.
We are testing at Willow Springs next weekend. Should be a hoot.
Crap, you guys have been making your car faster? And here I am sitting a sewing machine again... Dave do you remember where we put the car??
Alex,
Problem: uncontrollable inside tire wheelspin.
Solution: more power and torques.
I like it.
Good luck at THill. I'll try not to blow that powderpuff off the road with the talon's boom pipe.
Any pics of the engine swap/relocation... I'll trade pics of my big one for pics of your little one.... We now have a 'shooting break' 928
I spent all day putting the finishing touches on the beast. It is not a running, driving car. I'll get it out in the open tomorrow and take a few pictures. We test on Sunday up at Willow Springs. I can't wait to be the first to drive a rear wheel drive Geo Metro.
OK. Check the Blog. There are pictures.

Plasma cutters: what can't they do? Well done.

Sweet, you guys are good, very nice and probably very, very fast.
Can I drive for you? There are no spots left in the cars I built.....
I'm curious about the current odds on y'all vs the Z-600 boys... gotta know where to put my money.
no vids yet of the new setup running?

The Lemons experience of the Gnomes (3 races) probably gives them the edge. Of course, there's no telling how that suspension setup is going to work on the track, so the Z600 guys might spin out less frequently (or at least spin on fewer axes) with their solid rear axle and RX-7 front subframe.
I just hope both cars keep running all weekend. This should be a highly entertaining matchup.
We just got back from testing. There is a lot of potential in this rig. Had a bit of an issue with rear bump steer but it's fixable. The new engine runs fine and feels fast. All was looking good until we broke a half shaft. It was one I tried to lengthen by welding a section of snug fitting tubing over it and it just fatigued and failed. I'll have to find some stronger tubing with a thicker wall to get that to work. Dave from the Eyesore team was there and has some pictures. Perhaps he'll post some.
If we can iron out some of these kinks, there is going to be some great racing in a couple of weeks.

We have all our drivers right now but if anything changes I'll let you know. As for bets, we're takin' them.
Back to the Z600 boys pictures: The transfer case/shaft reverser box looks like a huge chunk of cnc'd billet. I have GOT to get me one of those cnc mills and off to programming class I'd go...
That thing is bad ass.
I don't care how much money the Gnomes spend. I would give them a blank check to keep dreaming up these incredible creations.
We're all lucky the Gnomes use these talents for good and not evil.

Now that's something you don't hear every day!
Hey look at those badass donks! Got yourself one of those exhaust whistles. Wooowoooo!!!
Hey, Eyesore Dave hooked us up with a Dyno session this weekend. I will report our findings!
OK, back to the garage....
Hey, Eyesore
Speaking of the Eyesores, we at Lemons HQ are of the opinion that it's time for them to up the ante on this game and retire the Miata in favor of a much more demented machine. Come on, Eyesores, your car was radical in late '08, but the times they are a-changing! You gonna let these upstarts with their motorcycle-powered microcars, twin-turbocharged mid-engined GMC vans, Studebaker-engined Wartburgs, and the like leave you in the dust? You've got the engineering skills, you've got the driving ability, and- most important of all- you've got the costumes!
Guys, this is just all-around incredible. Following this thread makes me doubt the probability that our mostly stock Fail Porsche will be accepted into any race
For the record, I have plans for an epic Lemons car down the road (well, it will most likely fail epically ... that counts, right?), but I'm afraid I don't have the garage space yet. Might have to wait until the Porsche dies (so, I have 5 laps before I need to start work?).
They just might make it!
1250lb. 110hp. Lighter than the Metro, and every inch as crazy.
I'm really looking forward to seeing this thing.
man i really hope to compete with you guys next year at one of the events. We may need to add a little more power (aka dremel action) to our car though seeing y'alls power/wieght ratio, yikes!!!
2010 is gonna be fun once our monstrocity is up, which i promise will be uglier, and attract more heavy set women.
From what I understand, the Z600 will fit in the back of an Econoline. No need for a trailer!

Here is a VERY comprehensive write up on all the Gnome tech. It pretty much details every detail.
Actuating the stock bike clutch lever with the cable footpedal is absofreakinglutely brilliant. My favorite detail by far. How the hell did I miss seeing that bit the other day?
