Topic: K-it Fwd: NHMS Edition (again)

Steve and I are presently K-ing it forward from Cocoa Beach, Florida to Raby Baby HQ in Philly  then we're off to New Hampshire. The muffler is only dragging a wee bit.

I see balance shafts. That makes it a 2.5L instead of a 2.2L.

Re: K-it Fwd: NHMS Edition (again)

Super K made it under it's own power from FL.  It took a little longer than the GPS predicted, you can't trust science.

Anyway, the boys at Rally Baby Domestic ran some fairly quick laps got to P26 and K said enough.  The brakes started locking up and there was some issue under the distributor cap that killed the rotor button and then the brakes acted up some more and then there was a crash - After that the power steering pulley broke off and the belt escaped...

Super needed a nap.

So, now it's just the brakes and a pulley (and since it doesn't have power steering, it don't need no stinkin' pulley)

Sounds like the K has given up on spitting engine parts out, and just wants to keep going no matter what!

Good luck!

Re: K-it Fwd: NHMS Edition (again)

My favorite battle is between my 2 favorite cars there, The K vs The Rolls for 7th in Class C. It's been as close as 3 laps and now a 6 lap difference. 2-1/2 hours to go!

Re: K-it Fwd: NHMS Edition (again)

The K made it back to Doylestown, but it was a close one.  From the Facebook page of Steven R Mcdaniel:

So. Made it Doylestown. Barely. Tires are flat spotted like hell, rides like a covered wagon. It ran fine until I stopped for fuel just as I crossed into NJ. After that it ran like total shit the rest of the way..... then 20 miles north of Doylestown K finally crossed paths with the 5.0. Not the V8 variety, the impound your hooptie type.....

After a few initial questions. ...

NJ State Trooper: You cannot operate this vehicle in the state of New Jersey. It has no exhaust that I can tell, half your lights don't work, that seat belt is not legal, those fender flares are illegal. .... does this thing even have a speedometer?

Me: no sir

NJST: How do you tell how fast your going?

Me: I guesstimate

NJST: You guesstimate?

Me: yes sir

NJST: Excellent

After 20 minutes of running the info on the car and myself and consulting with 2 other car loads of local PD, he came back to the window. ...

NJST: Alright, get this piece of shit out of New Jersey.

Me: Sir yes sir. Thank you sir.

NJST: Drive safely, and try not to make too much noise.

Me: I'll try....

That could have gone very bad for the K.

Did you tell him you know Speedycop?  That probably would have gotten your ass tossed in the pokey quick.  Good to hear you made it home okay.  That could have been far to interesting.

A 5-point harness isn't as safe as a 3-point inertia-lock belt? And since when are fender flares illegal? Fascism, I say!

This Jersey where you can't (or at least could't) pump your own gas for safety reasons.

Re: K-it Fwd: NHMS Edition (again)

Good thing we live in a federation that protects interstate commerce. No such thing as "illegal in NJ". It's legal in Maryland, and, the best part, they can't even write you a repair order on a historic car. You're ok to keep driving if you have at least one headlight, one working wiper, a half a windshield and a brake light or two. They can still stop you, technically, but they have to let you go.

They can still fine you for breaking local noise regulations, though. I'd add a muffler to that poor car, it's way too friggin loud for the power it makes. Also, somebody needs to move the exhaust away from the body, it was rubbing in places.

Yeah,  shame about that whole United States thing. Sounds like the K car needs to continue into next year with special attention given to driving it to NJMP. Twice.

Not too sure what will become of K.  Odds are it will be chained and welded to some jack-stands at 24HLHQ so that passerby's for generations to come can stop and enjoy all thing K.
