And now you won't wonder so much why the natives eat so much garlic. The mosquitoes hate the taste of garlicky sweat. Or at least that's the old wives tale.
They are also attracted to dark colors, but release of carbon dioxide from breathing is the main attaction. Wear white, and don't breathe...you'll be just fine.
Seriously, "Deep Woods Off' does a decent job as a spray-on deterrent. I live in NC and we have our fair share of them blood-suckers here too.

Oh, great. Judge robes are black.
Just dip the robes in Deet, you'll be ok.

I am going to see if I can get my hands on a mess of pinion wood, it is about the best thing you can do to repel them from an area. After dinner is done, I am going to throw a couple logs on an let them burn all night.
feel free to come hang out with us.
where will you get "pinion wood" and what is it? Also, if it works and you have extra, i'd love to burn it as well. Like I told my team, they dont have to worry about mosquitoes. Mosquitoes love me.
Feel free to stop by the Living Waters Church of Subaru pit, we should have a little "living water" to share.

Right next to the ringwood, duh.
Sorry.

The fragrance of the wood, especially when burned, is unmistakable.
Hmm, kinda like a stink bomb or a judges robe after two days and nights of partying, er I mean judging?
^^^^ He's not with me.

It's not exactly an infinite resource.
Pinyons are a small relatively slow-growing pine, the bark is dark and rough, taking nearly 200 years to produce a 1-foot diameter trunk.
200 years to kill a single skeeter seems pretty excessive. It bet regular pine works just as well. If you soaked a log with a little water to make it smokier, it might even work better.
