Topic: Grumble, crap

Doing the brake job on the 94 seville for the June DC race, and I only managed to break one of the bleeder screws and snap off a completely corroded bolt in one of the rear calipers.  Thus costing an extra 100 bucks not budgeted for.

Grumble, crap

Did I mention the brake lines now have more air in them then a hot air balloon.

If it makes you feel better, you are not the first team to have bought a new caliper for this very reason. I'm I'm quite sure not the last either.

Penetrating fluid - a blow torch - a good quality flare wrench - patience - and a little luck.  That's all you need.

At least brakes are a "safety" item so it won't count towards your budget. Also, at least calipers are available for your car. I had that happen once on a car for which calipers were no longer available. That was fun to fix.

Re: Grumble, crap

I had a bleeder break off the front right caliper of the Limo, 86 Fleetwood.

Thankfully, it was only about $20.

I like to use a 6 point socket to to break them loose if it fits.

First, a couple of PB Blaster squirts over several days, then this. Works like a charm.

Re: Grumble, crap

The rear calipers and discs were completely salt encrusted, the bolt was just eaten away.  The bleeder valve I broke was on one of the calipers.  A trusty tap will solve the problem
