Topic: suggest a tool box

I'm looking at tool box options. The Husky box on wheels from Home Depot ain't cutting it, even after replacing the slides. The Crafstman box has developed slide issues.

So here is how I wold like to use the box:

Preferably on wheels, they get heavy, with the new camper we can roll it right in. Toyhaulers rule!

Constructed well enough that won't fall apart/drawer slides fail

18" deep, 36" tall, 36" wide minimum, not more than 48" tall

Needs to hold: 3 sets metric sockets, 3 sets sae sockets, 2 sets metric wrenches (4mm-17mm), 2 sets sae wrenches 5/32-7/8), ratchets (2 ea 1/4 drive, 3/8 drive 1/2 drive and extensions), breaker bar and torque wrench, dozen or so assorted larger sockets (30, 32 mm for half shafts, butt ton of screw drivers and pry bars, flare wrenches, assorted hammers and bfh, pickle forks, alignment plates and tapes, pliers, vice grips, hack saw, spare blades for hack, sawzall and grinder hose cutter, probably 300 plus lbs. If you have it, you won't need it, if you forgot it, you'll need it.

Budget: Yeah, I know. Not $150, but not $1500 either. Not a Snap on, Mac or the like, but something better than HD, Lowes etc. lets say under/near $500.

Please make suggestions, I don't want to put my stickers on a box and have it fall apart.I have to go back to Dawsonville for a Dawsonville Pool Room bumper sticker!

TIA,

Fritz

Re: suggest a tool box

Costco has a very nice, roller ball slides, stainless steel, workbench/tool box that works great as a toyhauler box.
I Have been abusing mine every day for 4 years now, and it doesn't seem to care.

Or make friends with a tool truck driver.  Hit them up for trade-ins/repo's.

Re: suggest a tool box

It's been suggested to me that pawn shops are good for tool shopping. Maybe tool box shopping too?

Re: suggest a tool box

Surprised nobody mentioned the chinese emporium aka Harbor Freight.    Not to bad for the amount spent.

Re: suggest a tool box

I went through a similar deliberation lately, mainly for Lemons-race toting. Here's what I bought and we've been thrilled with it:

Re: suggest a tool box

Thanks for the input! I've narrowed it down to the Costco or the 44" box from Harbor Freight, which got suprisingly good reviews!

Re: suggest a tool box

I have a three drawer tool box from Hamak.

It has been working well although I do not have one of their big boxes.  I think they are like the NAPA brand.  You can also get them at Northern tool.

Also look at Proto toolboxes.  They are out of your budget but you might be able to find a used one.
