Re: Sacramento International Auto Show, Again

Date change. The event has been moved back a week, to October 21-23 (Friday - Sunday). That'll give us an extra week to recover from the Buttonwillow race.

Re: Sacramento International Auto Show, Again

This event is still on. I've contacted the organizers to get what details are available. I'll let you know what I hear as soon as I get a reply.

I talked to John a couple of days ago and Balto will be coming. We'll have a great lineup for this show, assuming we don't all ball our cars up at Buttonwillow. wink (That never happens.)

Ours was balled up after PNW, but we will have it ready.

If you wind up short of cars, let me know and I'll drive the Super Snipe up, assuming that it survives Buttonwillow.

At present we have plenty of car, although I'm not turning anyone away.

I'll keep this thread updated so people can see where things are headed.

It's coming along. I don't know that much about the car or team, the inside jokes and all, so you'll have to help me out a bit. In the mean time...

We are now to the point where the inside joke is comprised of taking Jaguar engines and finding the most ridiculous cars to put them in. The team did nix the 944 I was going to buy.

Re: Sacramento International Auto Show, Again

Here are the event details.

The web site for this event is: http://sacautoshow.com/

Event Details
Dates: October 21-23
Friday: 10 AM - 9 PM
Saturday: 10 AM - 8 PM
Sunday: 10 AM - 6 PM

Load-in is on Thursday, load-out on Sunday at 6 PM

It looks like there will be a total of 10 shows besides the big, main, commercial show. Euro Sunday, Cal Auto Museum, Antique Motorcycles, and others will be exhibiting. They are calling us "Art of Racing". That should confuse and befuddle some folks.

Exhibit Space
We'll be showing over at the expo building again. To get to them exit I-80 Business onto Exposition Blvd and drive past the fair grounds. Turn south on Ethan Way and enter through gate 12, which is on the right, directly across the intersection with Hurley. Follow the road along the back of the facility and when it turns north you'll see our buildings. Unload in the parking lot and drive the car between the buildings and into our exhibit space. Check Google Maps to get a good visual on this.

We'll get the courtyard again, the big open space in the middle of everything, the first thing people see when they get to the show, the best spot in the place, unless it rains.

Admission and Parking
Last year we were given free tickets for admission. You actually have to go to their office to get them. I tried to get them to save you having to find them but that did not work.

We'll have to pay for our own parking. The people who handle parking are a different group from the event people.

Event Stuff
I'll bring pop-ups, tables, and chairs, and a cooler, maybe two, full of ice and drinks. Food and drink are also available at concession stands.

I'll bring extension cords. There are outlets nearby that we can use.

I'll bring drip pans because, you know. If you have some help me out by bringing yours. I don't have enough for every car.

I'll bring tools, too, because, you know.

I'll bring a laptop and speakers, maybe even a large monitor. We can play race videos, maybe even Nick and Jay's race wrap-ups if I can figure out how to download them. Internet access will probably be very limited.

Feel free to bring your own extras. Last year Gavin brought pop-ups and such, along with Christmas lights. That was really nice. Mike Kimball brought the Vanagan and staged his display, making it look like his paddock space, only cleaner and less desperate looking. Restart Racing (April and Gene) did much the same. Trophies and other items can make you look like Tony Stewart in the eyes of the kids.

Posters
I'm making each team a poster they can display on their car. These really help our visitors during busy times and when you are not around. I'll have extra prints made that you can keep or give to visitors. Check out the Team Tinyvette Facebook page to see what I've come up with so far.

Swag
I've got about 100 Lemons patches that we can give to the kids. I'll try to get a stack of stickers and such from Jay and Nick. Feel free to bring other items to give to the kids. Bent valves are always fun. I have boxes of old valves, valve springs, etc. Yea, junk, but real-race-car junk.

Activities
Of course the every-hour-on-the-hour firing up of the Belvedere is a must. Firing up Balto would be fun, too. Firing up the Tinyvette will just spray soot on people standing behind it, but hey, that can be fun.

Sunday services, Reverend CrazyMike's reading of passages from the Book of Haynes, should happen. Irredeemable lost souls and all that we are.

Media
TV shows generally do their thing at around sunrise on Saturday and Sunday. If you want to be included in that let me know. If/when I get a call about that I'll relay the message to you, but just so you know, it may involve setting your alarm for 4:30 AM.

The Cars
The list of cars we have at this time are:

  1. Tinyvette

  2. ReStart Racing's Ford Ranger

  3. The TCT Porsche and Limo combo and possibly the Aqua Volvo

  4. Homey Depot

  5. Faster Farms Belvedere

  6. Race Omega

  7. Del Camino (canceled)

  8. Avanti

  9. Scrubby and/or Raisin with Vanagan

  10. Model T GT

  11. Jagvair (trailering down from Oregon)

  12. FraidyCat Racing's V12 Jaguar

  13. Super Snipe (possible)

Twelve is a lot of cars, but we could probably fit more in.

Mike

Re: Sacramento International Auto Show, Again

Don't count on the Super Snipe.   15 minutes before the checkered flag at Buttonwillow, I heard a loud "pop" and the engine died.   It might be something simple, but I don't know.   I just winched it off the trailer and into my driveway.   It will be a few days before I can work on it.

"Don't count on the Super Snipe."

A phrase that should never be uttered. wink

I hope it was something simple.

It is getting plenty of fuel pressure and flow to the carb, so I don't think it is fuel related.
The "pop" did not sound like major engine internals, and it sounds OK when cranking,
so that is far down on the list.   That leaves electrical.   45 years ago I had an identical
event in my Triumph TR4 which turned out to be a bad distributor rotor.   After I recharge
the battery, that is where I will start looking.   Lucas, Prince of Darkness.  smile

Re: Sacramento International Auto Show, Again

Our distributor failed last weekend. Weird. I guess the cap got jostled and came off. The distributor shaft got bent in the process.

Work on your poster has begun, so now you are obligated to fix it and bring it. wink

Also, this poster, I'm working on the special deals part now. Zero-lift cam, grab bag of valve springs, store demo pistons...

Yay, the Super Snipe runs again, so I guess I'll be at the show!
I still have to do a tuneup so that it will start with the hand crank -- that should amaze the kids.

Glad to hear it. It will be sure to amaze people.

I've been out for a week or so, not keeping up with this. A couple cars had to drop out, but the Super Snipe and maybe Overzet's minivan will make it.

I start early tomorrow getting everything in place. It'll be a long weekend.

Re: Sacramento International Auto Show, Again

It was a bit slow yesterday, what with people's school and work. Today and Sunday will be different. If you are in the area come on by and help tell the Lemons story. If you want to bring a car we can still get you in. My cell = 707-776-7145.

There's a chance, though slight, that the newly refurbished UDC may come.

Also, related to all this because after seeing our cars people actually do come watch us race, I wrote up a little guide to spectating at a Lemons race. Here it is: http://www.kstreetstudio.com/files/24HO … tating.pdf
