Jagvair update! The 2017 rebuild has continued... Front and rear suspension have been removed and decisions (good or bad) have been made in the configuration of the Jagvair. A schedule has been created and will be quickly missed.

RBS: Reese Bobby Syndrome. A condition where the person needs to blow up a situation if it gets too comfortable. The Transcontinental Drifters suffer from the ailment in the form of never being comfortable with a running racecar. Please enjoy the removal of the SECOND floor from the racecar in as many years. Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

Our team is a democracy. We sit and throw ideas around. Sometimes good ideas get voted down. When teams are sick of sucking, they go out and get a Miata. Weak. Our team decided to redesign the Jagvair. The first step: 50/50 weight distribution. The solution: move the engine back a foot. Same Jag 4.0l, now with impossible to change spark plugs.

Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

You'd think they would figure out the simple way of 50:50 weight balance.
A second engine in the trunk, like the original designers intended.

If it was easy everybody would have a semi-mid-engine 56 year old unibody powered by a 33 year old diesel-derived-straight-six aircraft engine with luxury truck independent front and rear suspension hung with Brembo brakes carrying their aerodynamic sheet metal power animal on top. Simple.

Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

As with most motorsports, technology (and money) are usually the deciding factors in who wins (looking at you Mercedes). With that in mind we have decided to CAD design our new Jagvair 2.017 (two point o one seven). Same awesome Jaguar components, same aerodynamically perfect Corvair body, now with zeroes and ones controlling our fate. Welcome to the cold, calculated 21st; sleep well tonight knowing that your competition is digitizing a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII rear lower control arm. What's that? You can't sleep, I'm sorry to hear that.

Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

Everyone has brought home a car that their wife has reacted to by facepalming, but in order to up the stakes in our Lemons racing house, I decided to get some car inspired decor. You can buy a LeMans or Lamborghini poster anywhere, but a rare 4 foot x 6 foot campaign photo of the backside of Ralph Nader, now that is a heirloom. I planned on putting in place of our TV, but the wife reacted negatively to that idea (I did not even recognize some of those swear words). It is actually B.Y.O.B.(F.). Brake Fluid or Hydraulic Fluid, we don't judge.

Finally got into the "A" motor to find out what the idle noise was. Timing chain is a little loose and the guides have started to delaminate.

Call up the "B" motor! Timing chain is tight! Stab it in!

Is it cheaper to buy a new timing chain set or another XJ6? You already know the answer.

"A" motor is being converted to diesel.

End of message.

Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

Though the Jagvair needs to be ready in like 90 days, there is always time to go to the track. This Lincoln Mark VIII was originally purchased as a parts car for the Jagvair, but sometimes you don't get the car stripped before a team member falls in love with it. I won't drive it because it smells like sadness.

Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

I apologize for my neglect of the Jagvair build thread, the team has been focused on bringing home the IOE in the Subarute Previa. Since the Jagvair has been in limbo, the team has gone through some changes. The Jagvair is dead, I am sick of working on it, nobody else comes by to work on it, it is dead. As part of the spoils of winning IOE, I have negotiated a new purchase for the Transcontinental Drifters stable. The Jagvair is being replaced with a 1959 Jaguar MK1, the Jagvair 2.0. Two have been purchased, one for next year's rally and one for PNW 2018. I will be extensively sharing build information on both projects as I am sure everyone will want to be part of a spec class filled with 60 year old British cars. Get your chassis before it is too late.

Re: Corvair Build Thread (Transcontinental Drifters)

Weekly Drifters Update! Took some preliminary pictures of the current state of the General Rubbish rally car. The interior is a total loss, dust masks are going to be mandatory. I am sure some guy with MBE after his name will curse me for all of eternity because I did not restore this car to its former Imperial glory. The body itself seems to be in quite good shape, at least it should be weldable. Also the Jagvair 1.0 has left the building, but don't fear, the Jagvair 2.0 will be at PNW 2018!

Please, please do a 'The Remains of the Day' theme with this. Extra bonus points if you replace the drivetrain with that from a Mercedes and refuse to acknowledge the swap you performed.

Why, because it will most likely have already rusted away to nothingness?  smile
