Topic: EFI Tank donor for Lemons Rally

I'm looking to retrofit a different fuel tank into my Opel Kadett to support an EFI conversion and because I don't like the tank it has now, in the right rear corner of the cargo area. With all the fuel tanks you have looked at, do you guys know of a good one that would fit in this space?

Under that flat deck, there is a cavity where I would like to recess a different fuel tank - it's 6-8" deep, I can cut out the floor to set the tank lower, and I can build mounts off the frame rails. I got to looking into universal tanks, and this one from tanksinc looked nice, but I would be into it $400+ to buy one brand new set up for EFI. I would prefer to go the junkyard route.

I used to do a lot with Isuzu Troopers, I had saved a tank for a while thinking I would use it in the Opel, but I may have accidentally sent it to the scrappers. That tank was big at 21 gallons, but I liked how they mounted between the frame rails and the fill tube pointed the correct direction. I would be fine with something in the 16-ish gallon range. I do know a guy with a parts Trooper, so I could get another one if I need. This is what they look like (after being nicely cleaned and painted).

Sputnik still has a fuel tank from Nissan Quest, looks like roughly that shape. Comes with a working pump and sender. Come take it wink

Check with Evil Genius.

I think that you can either run the factory tank or an aftermarket cell but not another factory tank from another make/model.

Headline of the post says it's for the rally so that won't apply otherwise you're right.

Good catch!
I just assume Lemons racing when i see these questions, it's good that we are branching out as there is a lot of combined experience and expertise here.

Re: EFI Tank donor for Lemons Rally

Correct, this is for the Lemons Rally, not the race. I do aim to make it safer than the OEM arrangement.

I've been browsing pictures of random fuel tanks, ones from SUVs have the frame mounting that I prefer, and that lead me to search for a Geo Tracker tank. It's only 11 gallons, which is only slightly larger than the OEM tank, and I would expect that it would fit the space well. $50 from a junkyard. It's an option.

Or something wider, flatter, and larger capacity is a late 80's Subaru GL/Loyale tank.

See where I'm going with this?

That area looks similar to the stock location for a 2001 VW Golf/Jetta tank.  I have an extra if you wanna come get it...
