Topic: I wonder how a 24 Hours of Lemons boat race would be?

We were discussing alternatives on our trip back to Texas, and the idea of an endurance boat race came up.  You better build it well or you're swimming back smile

While the Lemons car race could POSSIBLY result in death.... these maniacs in boats would DEFINITELY result in death... possibly a lot of death.

They did that on Junkyard Wars once, it was pretty funny. The liability would be incredible though.

For boat racing I would stick with the cardboard canoe races.  Cheap, creative, and done in shallow streams so when it sinks you can walk back to shore.

Having spent a lot of really dangerous time on San Francisco Bay in a wretched fiberglass waterski outboard (complete with '59 Chrysler-style fins) that was obtained in exchange for a sub-$500 Beetle, I can say that Lemons boat racing would probably result in the deaths of something less than 50% of the participants. So let's do it!

I've always liked the idea of a Lemons boat race. Other possibilities that have been mentioned are $50 motorcycles and $2000 planes/helicopters.

And I've heard Murilee's boat stories. Someone will die for sure.

How about the Lemons Triathlon? Entrants must purchase their running shoes, swim gear, and bicycles for under $50 total. Oh, and they have to carry the bicycle during the running and swimming parts.

I do triathlons and you would be surprised how many people do them right now on garage sale specials that they had rotting in the garage or got for under $50.  Its even more fun when one of those people drops a guy on a $4000 Carbon Fiber race bike like he is standing still.

Dropping a line of spandex kitted roadies when you are on a muddy early 90's steel full suspension mountain bike is priceless.
