Topic: Helping a friend with a Mini

Hi guys, I have a friend that is a bit crippled up who has a hobby car build to keep him busy/entertained. It's an ex-racecar '72 Mini. He has asked me to help him get it running. Problem is, he bought the shell with no engine. Since then, he has picked up a couple engines and gearboxes, but it's still missing a ton.

I know some of you guys dig minis. I'm wondering if you might be able to help me source some bits to help get his car going. Perhaps sell us some of your surplus. Offer product and vendor recommendations, etc.

I think we're going to need a good carburetor, distributor, and starter.

The bad (and lower displacement, 850cc???) but more complete engine:

The "good" (1050cc???) engine:

Re: Helping a friend with a Mini

Minimania board is probably the easiest place to buy/swap mini parts and get help:

http://www.minimania.com/msgThreads.cfm

There is a for sale section.  There are some sharks on there.

Spank sometimes has power plants for sale.

My shop restores old mini's. https://www.facebook.com/weinerracing/?ref=bookmarks

I'm a long way away, but phone calls are cheap. I would not take everything you learn on Mini Mania as all there is to know. They serve a purpose, but not always the best for every situation. I'm good friends with Phil Wicks, who was the stunt driver in the original Italian Job, and do a lot of work with him.

As for engines, I would stick with a 1275, the smaller engine is going to disappoint..

Contact Bill Gilcrease @ MinComp Racing - 949.650.3058 - he can build him a 1340cc beast if he wants to go that ,or help him through anything else he wants to build

Re: Helping a friend with a Mini

I learned about the British Field Meet in Portland just in time to pop over there and find a carburetor, so I have a single 1.5" SU now. I think I have almost enough to get the 998 running. Who knows what else we are missing to get it installed and controlable though.
