Topic: Hooptiefest Tranny Blow!

Our untested high mileage SHO tranny just committed suicide. Anyone know where we can score a new one? Needs to be 5 speed rod shifter type, 92 to 95 we think. We will go anywhere in the Northeast to pick it up, because we are that committed...and have access to an old plane.

Help!

Re: Hooptiefest Tranny Blow!

You guys know about car-part.com?

Looks like there is a rod shift trans in Billerica MA... 50 miles away

Re: Hooptiefest Tranny Blow!

We were all set and on our way to go pick it up until they went to take it out of the car and found out that the case was cracked on that one too!

Big props to Mike and the guys at Jack's Auto though. They were willing to stay late on a Friday night and take the tranny out of the car it was in for us. http://www.usejack.com

Still scrambling...

FWIW, he says he got it to swap into a manual trans sho. So maybe he has a trans? Give him a call.

This guy might be desperate. Ad has been up a month. Offer him $200 and tell him you misread his $2K asking price. But it's a bit further

Re: Hooptiefest Tranny Blow!

Spank - we still have the stock 98 3 liter in the car, no way we would trust that Yamaha motor. Going to submit our 200 offer, will let you know the reply. As of right now we are planning on flying to NJ to retrieve one...stay tuned.

Re: Hooptiefest Tranny Blow!

Just landed at Westchester airport, tranny getting delivered from Mount Vernon NJ. Our little Cesna parked next to multi-million dollar jets. Sure to turn heads when we carry this thing through their shiney corporate jet headquarters!

Lemon Caviar anyone?

Re: Hooptiefest Tranny Blow!

I wonder if this is the first time a Lemons car has been fixed at the track by a part delivered via airplane. If that's not heroic fix, nothing is!

They did win Heroic Fix. However they also didn't realize there was another Taurus SHO team at the event in the same paddock that had a spare Taurus SHO manual transmission they could have used. WAH-wah.

It was funny to find that out. Probably not so funny to the people that spent $$$ to get the transmission. I thought we had a chance at it because Grover went down on day 2 with transmission issues. The teeth on 3rd gear broke, so Manny pulled out 3rd gear pack, replaced it with a spacer fabricated out of spare rollbar tubing. Slapped it all back together and sent the driver out with 4 out of 5 gears.

I know this is late but Mike rins or did run a car in the series for a number of years.  I used to live in the area so I knew the yard well and Holland's aka Lake Holland's as that place was always wet and right next to a town water supply WTF.

Re: Hooptiefest Tranny Blow!

For a little more follow up, they flew in the new tranny, installed it, got the car back on the track, then shredded the clutch and were out.
