Topic: Savannah Speed Classic

Don't know if anyone saw the email, but Lemons has been invited to some cool stuff at the Savannah Speed Classic October 27-28. It's a historic sports car race on an old Indy Lights track for rich people, held in conjunction with the nearby Hilton Head Concours d'Elegance. We go every year to watch. Of course we're excited to do it, and will bring the Fairlane, but I wanted to take the opportunity to offer up our house for anyone that wants to come down and needs a place to crash. We live in Rincon, about 30 minutes away from the track, and have plenty of room.

Re: Savannah Speed Classic

I really want to do this. Ricky and I may bring Sparky down for the weekend.

Re: Savannah Speed Classic

I registered the Bumble Bee and will tow it to Savannah for the event. One of our team drivers is working the event as a corner worker. The schedule on the Savannah Speed Classic website has a designated slot for pull behind trailer load in on Wed afternoon. I emailed the organizer and he was happy to have us arrive on Thursday afternoon. The Lemons cars will be set up in the infield.

Re: Savannah Speed Classic

I'm registered, see you guys there.

Re: Savannah Speed Classic

That means that they wanted us to register by 10 Oct. but good luck on that!

They are still accepting applications.

Just email the registration form to :

sstrelcheck@hhiconcours.com

If you need to form just PM me with an email address and I'll send you one.

Re: Savannah Speed Classic

Okay, I registered last week, so we're good to go. I only saw 4 recipients on Sawyer's status e-mail, so I'm guessing that there won't be a lot of us.

That folding table looks worse than the ones we take to launch sites upon which our epoxy-crazed students assemble high-power rocket motors and engage in field-expedient airframe repairs. Nicely done!

Re: Savannah Speed Classic

More Lemons cars are here today, and also more people marveling at their hooptieness. Lots of cool classic cars are racing as well. And there is a big snake. This event has everything. Tomorrow they let us on track:

The gang all gathered at the awards ceremony:

The three special award winners for the show, a Lola, a Chevron, and an Electrica. It was so weird to be on the podium accepting an award with these cars. Each of us gave a short speech and we received our awards:

Action shot of Sparky on track. If you squint and don't think about it too hard, it almost looks like a real race car:

Re: Savannah Speed Classic

It really was a great experience. The organizers took good care of us. There was a huge number of historic race cars actively racing and that was pretty cool to see. Lots of interest in the Lemons cars. It was worth the trip, I would do it again.
