Topic: Wanted: R53 MINI COOPER S lighweight flywheel

Figured I'd ask here.

I'm looking for a lightweight flywheel for an 02-06 (first Gen) MINI Cooper S and I don't want to / can't pay new price for it.

Mr Spank, if you find one in the UK (eBay), I'll help you out.

Re: Wanted: R53 MINI COOPER S lighweight flywheel

Thanks. I'm learning that the stock FW is a dual mass and has an unsprung friction disc. Going to a solid flywheel has people using sprung friction discs. I wonder if this is really necessary.

On the 80s MG metros and similar era minis, the "verto" flywheel is the sprung friction disc variety. But I've routinely replaced them with unsprung discs with no bad results. I know this is to dampen judder during shifts but is it really necessary for a track car?

Any imput from anyone is appreciated.

I have an unspring disc in the Porch... organic material, no real difference.

The driving gets iffy on the road at low speeds with low inertia (aluminum) flywheels on low inertia engines (rotaries) with unsprung 6 puck racing discs... anything less terrible than that should be fine.
