We've stayed in the Fairfield in American Canyon and the Courtyard in Vallejo across from the 6 Flags park.  Both are fine.

Weather-allowing, RV or tent camping at the track is a +1 (or +26F, that one time at Arse-Freeze they delayed the start because the crash trucks needed to thaw out. . .), with plenty of open space near and far from the track, and good sunrise views from up the hill as well.

Re: Hotels in Sonoma, CA

We've always stayed at the Inn Marin.  Some love it, some loathe it.  It is a motel but has a full service restaurant/bar and a nice breakfast buffet included in the price.  Close to the track, there is a Shell station between it and the highway which is convenient for filling up gas cans on your way to the track.  Also supermarket and starbucks not too far out of the way.
