neat car!
neat car!
Thanks! I didn't realize that I never posted a picture of the whole car in this thread.
yeah, nice hacks! did you have to do any code tweaking/tuning on the road?
I did some tweaks, but probably nothing that did any good.
The Opel has been languishing in the garage while I've been working on fixing up my Volvo V70 XC for winter "beater with a heater" duties. And it's about time to start thrashing on my V8 Volvo to get it's suspension overhauled before another road trip to the Zip Tie Drags in Tucson.
Still have not resolved the misfires and cut-outs that seemed to get worse through the rally. I'm fairly certain we were having fuel delivery issues - especially in the heat (though I am also somewhat suspicious of my ignition coil too). I'm going to pick up a Geo Tracker fuel tank this afternoon. Just going by vague size/shape/capacity, it looks like it will fit the space under the deck of the Kadett reasonably ok. The Geo Tracker capacity spec is 11.1 gallons, and I think the Kadett tank is 10.6, so that's a bit of a wash. I had hoped to add substantial capacity - somewhere in the 15 gallon range - but filling the car every 180 miles on the rally didn't kill us. What it will get us is an in-tank EFI pump, hopefully that will help.
Geo Tracker fuel tank is "installed" and works dandy. A proper modern sealed fuel system. No more fuel leaking out the level sender either (so that's where the smell was coming from).
I just switched over to using the megasquirt board that was always intended to replace the one I lit on fire. It is configured to use the pertronix ignitor as a sensor and fire the coil directly (with the mechanical advance locked out, this will allow the megasquirt to have full timing control).
