Topic: New Direzza ZIII (good news for 16" wheel owners)

So it seems that the reason the ZII's were on closeout is ... there's now a ZIII.  Same sizes (including 16"), supposedly lower void ratio, new compound.

Does anyone have any inside dirt on these? Now that "Dunlop" and "Falken" have parted ways, how will the ZIII and RT615K+ compare?

Who can say, But as I recall the ZII's were not so hot before the Star Spec version came out. No way of knowing just yet if we'll be repeating that again.

What is a void ratio?

The amount of "open space" in the tire. Racing tires have low void ratios (less open space) so there is more surface area in contact with the pavement, while all season tires have higher void ratios (to channel away water, etc.).

Add this to the gossip

Earlier today, according to a tire rack rep, the 3 has a similar compound as 2, most changes are contained to tweaking the tread design, wear is estimated to be about the same.

Ok, so something with no open space in the tread (slicks) would have a void ratio of 0? Thanks for explaining that for me.

Yes. Its the ratio of open space compared to the total possible tread area. So if there are no voids, the ratio is 0.
