Topic: New Team to Lemons, in the NC area

My name is Jeremy, I drive an 18 wheeler, and get too bored, way too easily. So I've put together a team of truck drivers to try an attempt a race down in Kershaw, SC. I know the endurance part we might have a slight advantage on, seeming we normally drive for 7 hours straight, then another 4 hours after that. Although we do know that racing is a lot different than driving something that can't do more than 35 up a hill, and 65 down one. Hopefully we all don't swing wide while navigating the course.

2 of us, Jesse and I, have previous racing experience. Just not in actually fast cars. Jesse drives a Probe,... and we both have experience building cars. John has experience working on them, but has not yet had the chance to build something interesting. So this is something he is really looking forward to. And my CDL trainee, Rick, has zero experience with any of it. And his entire family wants to help out building the car and costumes, etc.

We went last week to buy a 1987 Dodge Daytona, 2.5L N/A, and 5 Spd. I've already contacted a few other teams who have experience with this car to see what kinds of things I should look for and take care of before anything else. We have spoken with a few places about cages, and are just waiting to make a decision on which one we are going to go with. I guess that part needs to wait until we've finished stripping the car, and buying the seats that can actually fit all of us (John is called the Hobbit for a reason (and I'm about the same height as him,...from side to side).

We've kind of chosen to go with a hot dog theme. But not the Oscar Meyer Wiener mobile. We did look at the over used themes page, but I didn't see our exact idea in there. We want to dress the car up like a grill,... use grill grates for vents and stuff. We rigged up a BBQ lighter to be a click-to-start button, a beer can for a shift knob, smoker pipe with a tractor flap for the exhaust (we expect smoke at some point). Still trying to come up with more stuff to use for the theme, but for only a week in to the build, I think we aren't doing too bad. Any suggestions will be thrown in a box and randomly chosen or discarded. By the way, we want to call ourselves The Last Minute Wieners,... because we're dumb.

Anyways, just kinda wanted to pop in and say hi, get a little active on the forums, and hopefully see you all on race day!!

PS, how do I add images here? Can I use the img brackets to link facebook pictures?

Welcome to the forum.

You'll need to use the IMG tag and link to images. The forum doesn't have the ability to host photos.

Where in NC are you located?

Re: New Team to Lemons, in the NC area

I house the car here in Greensboro, NC. But one of our drivers is based out of Mt Holly, and the other 2 are technically out of Melbourne, FL. But they are planning to relocate here, also.

I'm going to attempt one of those picture things now.

Don't think that worked quite right.

Re: New Team to Lemons, in the NC area

At the suggestion of several users here, I am using:

postimages.org

.... to link pictures to this site. I have been pleased.

The provider's instructions are fairly clear. My links refer to the actual .jpg file I uploaded, though the domain of the presenting server is different than the above.

As an example, you can see the format of the bbs provider's generated links if you 'quote' my original photo post in this thread:

A G-body with the K-car powertrain; I can see no way in which this carefully laid plan could ever fail.

Buy some extra wheel bearings, they are cheap on Rock Auto.

Check your steering rack and ball joints for play.

Check your brake lines for excessive rust, they rust out and get brittle inside of that spiral steel protective wrapping. Give them all a good shake and see if any crack. I ended up replacing all of mine with NiCopp; it was a pretty easy job.

DOMINATE!

We'll see you at Kershaw.

Fixed the image link. You need to link directly to the image itself.

Right click on the image and select - Copy image location (assuming you are on windows).

That should make it work.

Re: New Team to Lemons, in the NC area

Thank you TrackGeeks_Chris and Lemon_Newton-Metre. I'll try to add some more pictures here soon, and hopefully correctly this time. Rmcdaniels, thanks for the suggestions. We definitely will be bringing tons of spare parts. Might have to tie the rest of the crew to the roof, almost running out of space for spare bits. And VKZ24, I will definitely get in touch with you. I did see something about the car show in downtown Camden. Is that the parade you're speaking of?

Thanks again, everybody!

Yes.  For the fall race you'll go through tech at the track, load back up and head back into town to a staging to unload.  From there we'll have a police escort s we parade into downtown.  Once there, we park and display the cars, and hang out while the BS judging happens.  There is music, food, and the locals look forward to see us every year.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it as well.

Re: New Team to Lemons, in the NC area

Whelp,... my daily decided to overheat. In a pinch, I decided to put this thing on the road. Surprisingly, it was able to actually drive without a single problem. I know I just jinxed myself, so I bought a matchbox car to strap to my feet and finish the race with. It was $10,... and no rules state the car didn't need an engine!

Fine automobile.

After your third breffast scotch, it almost looks like a 3/4-scale Porsche 928.
