It seems like the upper control arm travel is restricted or could contract the frame. Is it just an optical illusion or do you need to push the bracket further out?

The suspension is in full droop, once weight is on the car it will be fine.....I hope so at least!

You know what really SUCKS!?!?

I have to build stupid headers because I can't use the manifolds and get around the steering shaft on the driver's side. Ugh.

Trans is mocked up though.

The PVC mockup worked very well for me on the Caddy Miata build.  I'd never made a set before and it went perfectly the first time.  I think I had about 14 hours total in the whole exhaust system, so it saved some time too.  This video series walks through the process nicely:

Isn't there a rule that states tailpipe location can't be ahead of driver?

My gut reaction to my problem is to flip the manifolds mount 2 chinese turbo's and do a fenderwell exit.

Mundane, but if making a header is daunting, check out various smaller rwd trucks and suv for some very creative OEM steering shafts, there are CV joint units and some (isuzu I think) have a "overshoot gear box" where the shaft passes the rack and gets turned around to go back.

Yea, needs to exit behind the driver and be under 92 dB at WFO at 50' away.  We ran those headers into side pipes and it worked out pretty well.  Definitely easier than squeezing them down the miata tunnel, which had no room.

If you do side pipes, you need a cage or screen around them to appease the safety people.  Its not in the rules, but we were told to build a cage around them before the next race.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

Exhaust does have to exit behind the driver. Side pipes have been allowed, but just remember the burn risk when you design them. Exhaust that runs up the A-pillar and over the roof has been allowed. As always weird routing are best to run by HQ just to be safe.

In addition to behind the driver, tech also wants to see the exhaust not terminate just blindly under the car. Either bring it all the way to the rear bumper, or all the way to the side of the car.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

Guys....the more I look at it the more two turbo's make sense.

I can flip the factory manifolds facing forward and down, mount two cheap chinese turbo's in the fenderwell, then route a single 3" downpipe snaked past each side of the engine.

That would be way easier, cheaper, and cooler than building headers.

Engine can only handle about 600hp before it shatters the pistons, so it would have to be very low boost.

TALK ME OUT OF IT.

I will never talk anyone out of turbos. Ever. Especially when you have the chance to sound like one of the greatest Lemons cars in Lemons history, the turbo taxi.

For those that don't know, ford 4.6, manual trans, twin turbos remote mounted in the back of the car, epic noises.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

Nothing says the turbos need to be connected to the intake.

You could also just run the exhaust that way without the turbos.

But chinese turbos on a Viper engine in Lemons has no chance of not ending spectacularly one way or another!

If you have a salvage yard, you must have turbos kicking around from some other vehicle.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

Ok guys, after much depression and the thought of failing the viper V10 swap and defaulting to LS I think I can make the manifolds work.

I moved the engine up an inch for more room and I have to:

mill about a half inch off the driver's side so it can sit closer to the engine
Notch the side for the steering shaft
run a double jointed steering shaft
Cut the 3 bolt flanges off and use a v-band

Whew! I wouldn't have been able to sleep at night if I had to put a Chevy v8 in it :shudder:

Anyone worried about Darko?  Hope that depression didn't get the better of him.  Maybe he's pinned between the Viper header and the steering shaft.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

So, haven't had too much time to update, and out of town this weekend so won't be back on it until Monday.

I think I can workaround the steering shaft by using a double joint steering shaft, notching the manifold, cutting off the 3 bolt flange with using a v-band, and weldng it a bit. That is my next big problem I need to tackle.

I test fit some 18's and they look too tiny on the car, so I have a set of 20" gen V Camaro wheels. Don't fit over the front hubs, so I need to machine the bore on a giant lathe so they fit.

Also, pulled the rear suspension and decided it's getting a solid axle and 3 link rear suspension. I have a narrow 9" axle with a 3.50 gear that I think will work.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

Must see photo of giant lathe in action.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

OK guys

Still haven't got to machining the front wheels, the front may look kinda goofy with the grease cap sticking through.  If I have time I would really really like to figure out a way to mount some obnoxious knockoffs to cover them up. Anybody know if anything exists that can mount on the actual lugs?

Running a 28" tire, anything smaller doesn't look good on the car.

Steering shaft still proves to be a PITA to figure out. I was trying to avoid milling on the manifold because of mounting it to a fixture, but don't think its gonna happen otherwise. Probably going to have to mill BOTH sides and do some fancy schmancy cast tig welding so it can break during the race.

Playing around with rear suspension designs.  I really wanted to do a high mount 3 link and tie the upper link into the cage, but that upper mount has to come through the floor where the factory fuel tank is.  To keep the fuel tank I can run a torque arm setup, but that doesn't give me any adjustability for antisquat.

I'm thinking of maybe putting a fuel cell in this thing now because I want to run that arm through the floor.

What have I gotten myself into :\
