Topic: Firewall foam?

Hey
Patching up the firewall.  The holes with wire coming through; can you use fire retardant foam in areas you cant weld?? What are you guys using to patch those areas??

Re: Firewall foam?

Would suggest "properly sized grommets" as stated on page 17 of the How-To-Not-Fail-Lemons-Tech pdf.

FWIW--and I don't know if you have a particular foam in mind--but the name brand, orange colored foam in the big box stores is not fire retardant.

Best advice is above.

3M Fireblock.  I used to pull networking cable, we had to use it whenever crossing interior full height walls.  There is a plenum rated version for drop ceilings used as air returns, it doesn't give off toxic fumes when burning.  Just info, not an endorsement.

Bulkhead cable glands that are waterproof. You can get an assorted size pack on Amazon. Use the correct size drill for the gland and it makes an air and water tight seal for the firewall pass through. The insulation on the wire will burn and melt before the cable gland will.  Use them on boat bulkheads and on car firewalls.
