I would suggest a Sonoma, California race. The track is very close to San Francisco as well as Napa Valley. You could make a nice holiday around visiting the race there.
arguement can be made for Joliet, IL as well being in close proximity to Chicago. Races are never full and there is a bit of a Class C creative bent to some of the teams whoe even do multiple cars just like the California legends.
You SORT OF have something like this.
Detroit and Schiphol are both major Delta / KLM hubs and thus have a lot of direct flight options. The Gingerman races are less than a 3 hour drive from Detroit airport and have a very good paddock feel to them.
Additionally, the "west coast" of Michigan (race track is near South Haven Michigan: https://goo.gl/maps/BLYowYvCqXK2) is very scenic with it's Lake Michigan beaches and small harbor towns. If you've never been to a Great Lake before, it's easy to confuse them with the ocean... only without all the salt and no sharks! ;-)

Totally irrelevant anecdote - we are located in the Chicago suburbs and hired an intern from France who had never been to America before. She went to see Lake Michigan for the first time and couldn't believe it was a lake. She was finally convinced when she tasted the water and confirmed it was fresh.
NJMP is close to NY/ PHL/Baltimore airports. Road Atlanta and Barber are close to Atlanta airport. Probably the easiest for you coming from Europe.

::Drinks Lake Michigan water::
Jesus, I hope your company gives interns health and/or life insurance.
