So.

The axle I put in had a leaking pinion seal, and i spent about an hour looking for the type of pinion seal that the 3rd member needs.

Well....looks like this axle came out of a 1958 Ford F100... Yikes

Welded up the subframe to body brackets I made that were tacked.

Started playing around with putting together the remote shifter I cut the top off a factory T56 shifter and welding a 1" pipe to it, then cut the bottom off another aftermarket 6 speed shifter and bolting it to the trans tunnel. I added those little extensions to hopefully help eliminate slop in the side to side movement of the shifter...who knows never done it before!

More C6 Corvette trans tunnel aluminum...SWEET.  It's 1/8 and hard, will not take a bend...can't beat the price!  Looking at them now, should have used one to build the console, woulda been hella sweet...oh well.

Christ on a bike, this makes anything I've put together look elementary.

I would usually be proud of being able to yank the engine and trans out of our S500 in two hours, as we did this morning. Took about 20 pounds of useless plastic, screws, and ductwork out too. Good build day.

But not compared to another day of creating a Rolls-bodied super car out of thin air.

Even though I ordered the brake pads weeks ago, porterfield said they are on backorder.

The only thing they can get to me in time is the HAWK DTC-60 material.

Anybody have experience with it?  Think it will work OK on this car?

Well, we run HAWK DTC-60 on our 2700-ish lb. E36 with stock calipers and can get almost 2 full weekends out of the fronts with some pretty aggressive brakers. They are a bit lower in initial bite compared to other compounds, but once you're into the pedal they are very aggressive and modulate well.  On those characteristics they are probably a good fit to be honest, but I don't think anyone has ever raced them on anything approaching 4,000 lbs. and 500HP, so longevity is going to be a big question mark.  You're in unknown territory no matter what, but as I sit here I can't recommend against them.

If I had to make a suggestion I'd say get 3 sets all the way around, at least.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

DTC-60's are what we were using on our Acura. They bite hard, make a nice mess of wheels, but last for a race plus some. BUT, thats on a 2600 lb car, not 4000 pounds or whatever this scales at. Johnny at OG Racing got us into some Performance Friction compounds that are the bees knees, so far.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

I recommend calling Carbotech and explain to them what you are racing and for how long.  Then after they ask to clarify for the third time if they heard you correctly, then stop laughing, they can make up whatever you may need.  This was the only way we could get our Mercillac to last a full 8 hours without buying through pads.

^ FWIW, I relied on Carbotech's advice for brakes on the heavy XJ12, followed their advice and had terrible results.  Spent a lot of money trying their different pad compound suggestions, new rotors, test days to bed pads, etc and still had terrible pad transfer problems resulting in wasted race weekends.  They blamed me for all the problems.  Bought ST43 from Porterfield and issues went away.  Googled Carbotech brake shudder and found tons of people who had same issue.  Proceed with them at your own risk.

Yeah I wasn't satisfied with Carbotech either, that's why I recommended calling Johnny. He had amazing PFC pads in stock for my 928 S4 calipers which are a very unique size and extremely rare. I'm much happier with them than my old Carbotech.

Re: I bought a Rolls Royce and want to build it.

Surprised that porterfield/raysbestos/whoever the parent company is can't get them faster. We called them about pads for our Saab, which no one has ever wanted endurance pads for before, and they added the part number the same day. We got them in a couple weeks tops.

Their advice was rubbish, i.e. they had no clue how much we were actually asking from the brakes, as soon as I ignored their suggestions and went with the compounds I wanted the problems stopped.
