Topic: Need a good cage builder (Seattle area)

My team is just getting started on a 1g crx si that we are planning to run in July. Does anyone have a good cage builder who wont destroy our budget? Ive called a few places, and so far the lowest quote we got was 2000.

Re: Need a good cage builder (Seattle area)

To clarify,

Are you looking for a good cage builder? Or a cheap cage builder?

Because they are not the same thing. $2k for a good cage doesn't seem terribly out of line.

Re: Need a good cage builder (Seattle area)

Doug Chase of chaserace.com in Duvall does good work and is quite familiar with Lemons caging requirements, but, as Fishah indicated, that's not the same as cheap.

By the way, with any cage builder the standard advice is to make absolutely certain they understand that Lemons has its own specific requirements. Too many teams have failed tech because their builder decided that their personal way of doing things was "just as good as" or "better than" the rules. Just because something is okay elsewhere doesn't necessarily mean it's okay in Lemons.

Re: Need a good cage builder (Seattle area)

truth in the above. $2000 is fairly reasonable. You might find lower quotes, but the lower it goes, the more you will want to watch them to make sure they are building you a Lemons legal cage and not a circle track cage. Some have had luck buying a pre-bent kit, notching it all to fit, then finding a welder to do the final install, but you need to know what you're doing.

CRX is a small car, you want someone with the skill to tuck the cage as tight to the roof as possible so you're not violating the head clearance rules.

/agree

That doesn't sound too bad for a Lemons legal cage.

+1

Doug did fantastic work on our car.  You won't have to worry about your car meeting spec or being safe; he knows his stuff.

Depending on the price haha. The car is registered so we wouldnt need to tow it either. We will most likely go with the 2000 quote from a local builder, or if that doesn't work out we will find the money to go to doug at chase race (he quoted us 3500 i think)
