Topic: Greenie asking for help regarding Rims

Happy thanksgiving everyone!!

I have followed Lemons for a very long time and last week we decided to go out and purchase our crown jewl. Actually we ended up with 3 different ones in one week. (More on this later as we are compiling our pictures and notes from the grueling 11 hour 120mile trip home with it)

We have been really good so far on the numbers and have some left to spend.
I have read the rules a few times and I want to get some guidance regarding WHEEL RIM costs and whats covered or not.
I see allot of pictures on here and sometimes in the races of folks running new''eeeerrrr  rims. (tire seems open)

We can't use the rims on the car as we found that 3 of the 4 had cracks and one was repaired.

I would really like to stay under budget and needless to say the cheapest ebay online rims I can find is $300 a set which is the same price as used ones on CL. (5x112 18x8 ET40)

Any advice on this would be really appreciated as there are some really good deals going on this turkey week.

Thank you

Re: Greenie asking for help regarding Rims

From the "rule book"...

4.2.1: Beside the items and processes listed in Section 3, the following are considered safety-related and therefore exempt:
Wheels, tires, wheel bearings, balljoints, and brake components

Shop (and spend) away!!!!

Safety shit does not count toward your budget......

Thank you for the quick reply BigBird

We don't have enough cash left to go hog wild, we will probably still stick with the original plan. We ended up getting 2 of the cars driving and decided to turn one of them into the tow car and use the other as a spare parts on wheels (literally might be the best $200 ever spent ever and ever)

Re: Greenie asking for help regarding Rims

Glad to help....
You going to the race at Sears Point next weekend?

Nope we are to far off, we are aming for the March Pointless race.
We still need to strip and roll cage and fix a million leaks.

We might go just to get a feel for everything and learn as much as we can.

Absolutely, would love to.

I will PM you to get some details..

Re: Greenie asking for help regarding Rims

Regarding wheels and budget:  the judges won’t assess penalty laps for offset spacers either. Thought is that as long as wheels are budget exempt, there is no reason to force teams into spending tons of cash for some custom offset wheels when spacers will do. Not saying they are a good idea, just saying that they won’t go into the total.
