Next I need to get the suspension cleaned up and put back on, then I can worry about the brakes.

Anyone have any advice on a good place to order a cage for this car?

I'll check them out.

Re: 4th Gen Camaro Build

Seeing that you are in the Houston area, check out Apex Auto Works in Alvin.  Richard Tomlin comes highly recommended.  He is not cheap, but his work is solid.  Instead of just posting his finished work, he will post pictures of what his cages look like after crashes.

I like this guy's ethic!

Re: 4th Gen Camaro Build

you need 17x11 wheels so you can tuck 275/40/17 riken raptor tires all the way around.  it will be epic. and cheap.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet. We have some big calipers off a C6 Z06 Vette to put on it but it will require 18" rims in order for the calipers to clear. I need to look into 18" tire options.

Re: 4th Gen Camaro Build

fine, 275 35? 18.

That's a big front tire, not sure how well that will fit.
I should have the radiator mounted by next week, if you race a 4th gen Camaro you will want to watch the cooling system build I'm doing.

Re: 4th Gen Camaro Build

any progress on the cooling system also run a 4th gen and had some problems would like to see what you have come up with

Re: 4th Gen Camaro Build

275 tread width is way overkill for a Lemons car.

Roll Cage Components makes good kits, but don't underestimate the amount of work to install a cage kit. It still requires some trimming and fitting, and you need a skilled welder you trust with your life.

I'll have some photos to post soon that will explain it. I need to finish mounting the radiator first.

Fixed.

Sooo...we run 285's on the front of the Acura. 245's in the rear. When your trying to maintain pace with a bunch of RWD cars with v8's, you need all the grip in the corners we can get...maintain momentum and keep slingshotting.
I'll probably step it down to 275/35's in the future because those are Corvette stock size and tires seem a lot cheaper and more abundant.

Re: 4th Gen Camaro Build

275/40/17 is stock size on 4th gen SS on a 17x9 1/2 wheel.  !7x11 will fit a 315 tire.  Ask me how I know smile

If he has an LT1 in this thing, 275 will not be too much tire.  Will need a fair amount of negative camber, and these chassis are camber challenged.

Re: 4th Gen Camaro Build

275 width works very well on 3rd/4th gen F bodies. We run them on our third gen Lemons car and I run them on my LS1 swapped third gen. Going any bigger would likely require some sheet metal modification.

Definitely second the camber comment. We added crash bolts at the knuckles and slotted the strut tower mounting holes to give us the adjustment range we needed.

Re: 4th Gen Camaro Build

I am very interested in your build as I am also building a gen 4. Mine is a 94 with the LT 1 and super techy and unreliable opti spark.  This is my first build so I would love to get some info from you about yours as it comes along. Keep the pics coming!

Re: 4th Gen Camaro Build

Welcome to the F-body club. FWIW you can way more out of those doors. We run 17x9.5 vette rims and a 275/40/17 w/o any issues. (1988 Firebird) What engine? If you can get a 350 and roll. We have a 305-5speed, car ran well until it collect the pit road enterence last year. We are  transfering everything over to a new shell right now. We run the factory intake an quadrobog because the factory TPI is done by 5k. Old build at NJMP. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GpZHzZYXhJQ

Are you using wheel spacers with the rims? I have an '85 Trans-Am and am upgrading the brakes to where they need 17" rims.

Yes, we run 17x9.5 corvette "saw blades" I can't remember the size. I think they are like 1.25" We run the C6 dics up front. If you have bought your kit look at Bigbrakeupgrade.com his kits are easy and not crazy expensive.

these cars are bottom feeders. we just made our opening right under the bumper cover and used thick card board like a air box to direct it into the rad (2 core aluminum) http://i63.tinypic.com/bd4wp.jpg

Re: 4th Gen Camaro Build

What rims and tires will you use? I currently have a v6 and I am using the 16 inch and star specs. I want a better patch. 17 or 18??
