Topic: Road Atlanta Video!?

Hong Norrth had a great time!  Love running Lemons and seeing old friends.  Here is some video from Sunday early afternoon.

Failed control arm bracket took us out in the end.  It was a blast trying to chase down the leaders!

Re: Road Atlanta Video!?

It was good racing with you! That car looked like a hoot to drive seeing it on track, and the in-car video confirms this notion. We (Team Sheen, Integra #181 black/yellow) couldn't hang with y'all, notwithstanding our own dickstepping and mechanical issues that put us out of contention in any event. Will you be back in Feb. with AER?

Re: Road Atlanta Video!?

Not in the current plans to run with AER soon unfortunately.

What mechanicals did you have?

Re: Road Atlanta Video!?

If I ever get to drive Road Atlanta in good weather, I'm essentially going to have to re-learn the track.
We had cameras running much of the time, but windshield visibility issues on the camera side means there's likely to be a lot of uninteresting footage of watching drivers react to things the cameras can't see.

Well, we started the race by giving ourselves a 3 lap penalty when the car died on the first parade lap and had to be towed in. Alternator couldn't keep up with the load of the lights, defroster grid and heater blower (or so we thought). Turned off the lights and ran fine all Saturday, making it up to 5th place with a one-stop strategy made necessary by our self-penalty. Unfortunately we had a couple BFs on Saturday -- one contact (pinched T3) and one spin (down the hill toward T12 when we took evasive maneuvers to avoid contact by a car pinching that didn't see us). We still finished in P9 at the end of Saturday.

Sunday saw the car die on track again. We replaced the alternator. Still not charging. Then we replaced the master kill switch and viola. Then the clutch slave hard-line blew out at the flare (which had happened last year at Road Atlanta as well). We repaired that over the jesus hours and ran well for the rest of Sunday but for a BF for two-off somewhere.

Were it not for the mechanicals and the dickstepping, the car definitely would've had a shot at the overall. The sumbich is definitely faster, though. And y'all can wheel.

Re: Road Atlanta Video!?

Thanks for the vids. The first one reminded me we never told our rental driver how the green flag start works, oops. You passed the hell out of him (black 31 MR2). And if anyone has video of me doing a 5th gear tank slapper at about 3:00pm Sunday on the front straight let me know, our camera quit. I was pretty alone so probably no evidence. Sorry to the 300zx who flipped me off on the back straight, not sure what I did but none-the-less no harm intended.

Thanks for posting the videos..... great driving on a wet track.

What kind of tires were you guys running?
What kind of sorcery did you use to keep the windshield fog free?

We fought severe fogging all weekend... Fogx, Dawn, Barbisol, nothing worked.

Thanks!

Re: Road Atlanta Video!?

We had a severe windshield fog problem too. We tried Rain X, Rain X anti fog, Barbisol Menthol, no luck. I ended up buying a random heater core from the parts store and rigging it up to our 4" dryer duct that plumbed the defrost vent. The team was super happy on Sunday when we had a clear windshield. I'd love to hear a better solution. I thought a blower motor would be enough.

We run that magical thing that was designed for our car by Honda from the factory. It's a simple combination of a little radiator (commonly known as a heater core) a blower, and some ducting.  I think it's called a "defroster".  wink  Since your E30 is your 2nd Lemons car, I know you learned the lesson why you shouldn't remove that right?  smile

We had our share of problems, one of which was visibility, but not due to fogging.  Most due to the spray off other cars, but also the windshield wipers didn't work past 100 MPH.  On the back straight I never could hold the gas to the floor because I couldn't see who may or many not be sideways when I got to T10.  The cars with lights were much easier to see for sure.

We too would like to do a RA race with good weather.  We LOVE the track, and I'll bet the improvements will make it even better, but two years of suck-ass weather in a row is making us think long and hard about doing it again in 2019.

BTW, did anyone get a count of how many canopies and EZ-UPs were destroyed Saturday night?  We had two and they were both anchored down, but I guess not good enough.

Re: Road Atlanta Video!?

I counted 21 pop-ups that were pop-downed and/or broken when we pulled in before dawn Sunday, including one that was upside down in the middle of the back drivethru of the pits in front of our trailer.

We will also be connecting the rear running lights up after RA.  Our drivers said they could see the lights in the spray, not the cars attached to the lights.

-Saturday was bad!  We had a custom screwdriver with a roll of paper towels duct tape to it.  I would "squeegee" after t7 t12 and t5.  For Sunday, we did several layers of fog x and rain x caked on.   Seemed to work.  We typically have an inboard windshield wiper but that broke a few races back. It worked great though.

We got screwed at The Real Hoopties of New Jersey  and we took cars down with us.
We got the curse at Capitol Offense but they wouldn't let us destroy the car.

Re: Road Atlanta Video!?

I've used rainX anti fog on the inside of the windshield for several races and it always works great. Gotta re do it every morning though for sure.

I remember at Barber a few years ago in the rain the only reason I didn't hit a guy in the straight between 7 & 8 was that he had working tail lights.

Everybody grab your brooms, it's shenanigans!

Re: Road Atlanta Video!?

We have had some wet races in the past with horrible windshield fogging where we tried all the various spray on stuff and failed. So one of our upgrades for the Z for the 24 hour race was OE defroster vents ducted to boat bilge blower. It wasn't totally perfect but very good and a HUGE improvement over the past.
