Topic: Team twisted metal. New team old car.

Hey everyone. We are a new team that will be racing in CT. this year. We bought the 95 Acura off the forum for this race year. We are redoing the theme of the car to make it our own. So as we mess around with this old girl I'll be posting pictures and probably asking some dumb questions. Anyway I built a wing to mimic the Spectre car from the game twisted metal. At some point I'll be adding a nose cone and fake guns to the hood and fenders. Should be fun and interesting.

I'm also new to this forum so hopefully pictures work

I should include a picture of the car we are basing this off of

Re: Team twisted metal. New team old car.

Standard Lemons used car disclaimer...go over the car with fine tooth comb regarding current safety tech.  In Particular pay attention to fire suppression requirement ('cause if you have not ordered already, might be too late) and "No Bolt In cages converted to weld in cages" this year.  Door bars could also bite you in the ass if it has not been raced in about 3 years.

Love the WANG.

The fire suppression system just showed up today in the mail thank God. The harness was/is about to be out of date. The guy included all the Lemons stuff from the last few races it was in. We still plan on doing a once over and I plan on address a few iffy welds I spotted here and there.

The Lemons tech inspectors love seeing good welds but they hate seeing any evidence of grinding on welds and on cage tubing in general, so avoid grinding any if the iffy areas. If you really feel you must do so anyway, then contact HQ before doing any grinding, with pictures and an explanation of what you intend to do and why, and carefully follow their advice.

Created the fender mounted machine guns today. Not much but it's a step in the right direction. Used a water jet to cut out the brackets to hold and mount the guns to the fender and rolled some expanded metal to add to the look. Now to just mount them after repainting the car.

One more with it sitting on the hood for scale

Just need to remove decals then repair the car. Then we can mount them

We managed to remove the decals and get the fire supression system installed. We have 4 nozzles in the cabin and 4 under the hood. Most likely Overkill but it's the system that wasn't in back order.

We also managed to remove the decals from the old team so we are a step closer to a ghetto paint job.

Feels good to be a step closer to racing.

Re: Team twisted metal. New team old car.

Finally picked up the new to us rims and tires. Can't wait to get them mounted and balanced. We are still waiting on decent weather to prep and paint the car

Re: Team twisted metal. New team old car.

It's been awhile since I've posted on here. But since last time I did post anything we went ahead and repainted the car with custom painted racing stripes with cheapest of brushes I found in my basement. Added all the decals on including the custom license plate and bolted the hood guns on.

On a less fun note. We also went through and did all the normal crap including new brakes and an oil change. Other then a car wash and putting the new tires on we think we are ready to go for Thompson finally.

Had a crappy day at work so decided to drink beer and paint the car some more. Not much of a difference but I feel like its alot better then before.  Maybe now I'll put away the cheap paint brushes and tractor supply paint

Re: Team twisted metal. New team old car.

Played around and after making a bracket to hold the factory gauge cluster I was gifted a bunch of aftermarket gauges. That being said we should now have a working tach again soon.

Up next is a switch panel to clean up the rats nest of wires and make everything a little cleaner and easier to get to while strapped in

Re: Team twisted metal. New team old car.

Wait, How big of a Fire bottle are you running?  8 nozzles sounds like a lot. If the volume isn't matched right you'll get a straws trickle and not an effective fire suppression effort when it matters.
Ask John Pagel

Also having a manual extingisher can come in handy for other situations. We had brake issues and a fire but the driver didn't have a fire bottle once he got out the car, now we do carry that.

Re: Team twisted metal. New team old car.

If I remember correct it's a 10 lb bottle designed for 8 nozzles. But we also ran with an extra manual extinguisher in the rollbar that's easy to get to from the passenger window. We are debating on rerouting some of the lines to shorten the distance to nozzles though and balance the system better
