Re: Getting the most for scrap metal

$20/ton, i got a whopping $22 for a VW Passat shell, and $24 for a RAV4 with engine and trans.
But this place is easier to deal with.  The other big corporation place there is a long line and lots of paperwork and hardhats and inspections, just to get another $20.

I have been sorely disappointed trying to sell parts lately, not a single part sold from the RAV4,
an Explorer, the Passat, the Jaguar, the Subaru.   The salvage yards now advertise 'by owner' on CL
to avoid the $5 charge, this has diluted the value of CL for parts.

It has been three years but I got $177 for a Pontiac Bonneville with just the trans in it (even kept the wheels and tires).  Based on the volume of rust the car had, would say only about 2/3 of that weight was metal.
