Topic: Did Federal change the treadwear rating on the 595RS-R

I found a deal on a set of Federal 595RS-R (225/45-17) tires and the were advertised as being a 220 treadwear tire.  Before I bought them I double checked on Federal's website and they also showed them as a 220.  When they showed up they have 140 stamped on them.  Did the compound change or something recently and I ended up with an older model or is their website just incorrect before I decide what to do next.

Re: Did Federal change the treadwear rating on the 595RS-R

Dunno why I looked, but my first web search result, simpletire[dot]com, had this in the tire listing DETAIL [which I had to click to open], though _not_ in the Overview for your topic model 595RS-R:

225/45R17    94W    220AAA    BW    95BK7AFE
P225/45ZR17    94W    140AAA    BW    95BK7AFA

All the first 5 tire sizes I looked at in the detail had the same differentiation, in that their "ZR" rated tires are all 140TW, and the "R" rated tires are all 220TW, for any given tire size.

I know this is different, but my second result, giga-tire, has the Federal SS-595 225/45R17 91V BSW at 240TW.

Them I went back to simpletire and looked at their other offerings, and the FEDERAL 595RS RR, though not in stock at 225/45R17, is at 200TW.

I'm going to say:
There's more than meets the eye,
to the Federal 595.

Good luck with your dilemma.

Re: Did Federal change the treadwear rating on the 595RS-R

I was thankfully able to return them for a refund but I may do more research, if the rs-r does come in a 220 I think it might be a decent tire option, I only paid $300 shipped for the set.  Somewhere I heard that the SCCA changed their tire regs so maybe that has something to do with it.
