Topic: Anybody know how to format race lap times in Excel for calculations?

I downloaded our race lap data into Excel from Race Monitor and want to play around with averages, and other misc BS.

However, when I try to do this Excel doesn't understand how to perform calculations (averages, sums, etc) based on the lap time format.

MM:SS.000 (where the 0's represent a tenth/hundreth/thousandth of a second)

So an example lap time would be: 1:55.356

Anybody gone through this?  I have been messing with it for a little while with no luck.

Just set it up as a custom format and you should be able to do whatever you need to with it.

Just to serve as a reference point as to what's possible: we have a mathematician on our team. I dump all the lap times into Excel and break things out by driver, throw out the stops and yellows. Then he takes over. Using some crazy statistics program, perhaps Python, and he produced this from Butt Turrible:
