Topic: Keen waterproof hiking boots: excellent for shitty rain race weather

Sooner or later, you're gonna have a race weekend that involves a seemingly never ending rain event of one sort or another. Last year at Road Atlanta it rained the entire time. This year it rained in similar fashion on Thursday night and all Friday. You're gonna have to be out in that shit playing crapcan funtime, and your feet might as well stay dry while you're doing it.

Solution? Keen waterproof hiking boots. They sell a few different waterproof models, I use the Targhee Mid Wide. I'm on my second pair and they've never once let a drop through, no matter how shit nasty it's been outside. Highly recommended.

For Sonoma this month I made my whole team go buy waterproof hiking boots.  They were all much happier when we were broke in the rain for several hours.  My car seems to like to break at Sonoma when it is raining.

The results of my attempt to drive to Buttonwillow a couple of months ago would suggest otherwise.

Have you been able to drive any far distances with that yet without breaking?

Fourteen time loser. You'd think I'd know better by now.

I had one uneventful drive to visit relatives on the Oregon coast earlier this year for a total round-trip distance of about 750 miles. Other than that, no, never.

The car made it as far as Yolo, CA for September's race, which is to say about 730 miles before experiencing catastrophic failure, which in some sense is almost as good as its current record, right?

I love me some Keen shoes and boots but, uh, if you race in the Midwest, this is the answer...https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IY … &psc=1

Couple it with a nice warm robe and you are stylin'.

Curious: did you buy them large enough to slip on _over_ race shoes, or to wear _instead_ of race shoes (thereby having them useful in other situations)?

Because, y'know: "rubbers"...

I use them about 200 days a year since my lot is so wet...I put them on instead of race shoes until I get in the car.  They are fake shearling lined so with wool socks, good to about 25 degrees.

How's the quality of the rubber? Is it stiff?

Not stiff.  The shearling will wear out as much as I use them in a little over a year but again, I probably wear them 8-10 hours a day 50-60 days a year plus taking out the dogs out each morning for about 6 months each year.
