Topic: Helmet Questions

The rules haven't been updated to 2020.  I have a 2010 cert helmet.  Can I use that this year?

Has anyone tried the water cooled helmets?  What did you think of them?

Re: Helmet Questions

Cert won't change until the 2020 helmets come out which may not be until 2021.

Re: Helmet Questions

Yeah, Pagel stated on one of the Facebook groups that the 2010 helmets will be OK in Lemons until at least the end of 2020.

Fourteen time loser. You'd think I'd know better by now.

Re: Helmet Questions

A bit of info on SA2020 that I researched recently; Helmet manufacturers will only get SA2020 stickers in July 2020 and are not allowed to advertise or sell their SA2020 helmets until October 1st 2020. When SA2015 came out there was months of scarcity so most people probably won't be able to snag the helmet they want in their size until some time in 2021.

We're in an awkward time right now where if you need a new helmet the newest you can get is a SA2015, but if you could wait 12 months you'll get an extra 5 years of certification life. Although some manufacturers recommend you replace a helmet every 5 years so perhaps it doesn't matter much anyway.

If Lemons require SA2015 or newer on Jan 1st 2021, hopefully SA2020 helmet availability will be good enough for all the people needing to upgrade.

Re: Helmet Questions

Honestly if you need a helmet between now and whenever the 2020's come out you should just try and lowball the hell out of a 2010 collecting dust on some "im a race shop" shelf.

Re: Helmet Questions

From my discussions with Jay and Pagel at Road Atlanta:

We'll update on the grace period when we have a better understanding of whether or not the helmet manufacturers can actually supply new helmets in a timely fashion before the SA2010 times out. In all likelihood, they'll probably be valid through at least the beginning of 2021.

Additionally, there are no major technical rules changes for 2020. Safety stuff is all the same, will be a couple of small changes to non-tech parts of the rulebook.

Rules dead year before big 2021 regulation overhaul.  I think another series stole your idea.
