Topic: Driver Seat Roll Call

Hello everyone! Newbie here, just wondering what everyone is running for their driver seats. Haven't chosen one for our hunk of junk and wanted to see what everyone else is running so I can, well, copy you!

Thanks,

Stephen

We bought the Kirkey 71 series seat. Comfortable and does a great job isolating you from the side G loads.

Re: Driver Seat Roll Call

I bought one of these.  Still building the car but it seems as well built as any composite seat I've looked at.  I think once you do the conversion from zloty, you'll be a bit shocked at the price of their containment seats.

Re: Driver Seat Roll Call

Oreca has a killer sale on seats right now on the full range of Sparco, Recaro, and OMP seats, including "OMP Sport" seats that appear to be rebranded standard OMP seats sold at a lower price point. We just picked up an OMP Sport FIA CUP seat for $192, which as far as I can tell is equivalent to the OMP Champ-R seat sold stateside for $679. The shipping from France is where they get ya, at around $100, but shipping took TWO DAYS. Definitely worth checking them out for gear beyond suits as well.

For whatever reason, their website is showing prices 20% higher when I'm logged out versus when I'm logged in, so you might need to register to get the real prices.

Same here.  We're happy with seat, the sliders, not so much.

Re: Driver Seat Roll Call

I wanted a full containment seat to protect against side G loads and a composite seat because comfort for long driving stints.

First tried to get the Bimarco Grip Racing seat but they canceled my order because Covid shipping issues.  I then panic bought the Sparco PRO ADV QRT.

In hindsight i am still building the car and would have had time plenty of time to buy a seat 3 times over. patience. I got a chance to look closer at some of the kirkey seats in person and they looked more comfortable then I expected so I would have also possibly compromised on that.

Re: Driver Seat Roll Call

A good aluminum seat is perfectly comfortable. A bad aluminum seat is punishment.

A bit more expensive than other options, but not totally unreasonable.

I like it so much that it comes inside as furniture when it's not being used for racing purposes.

Another vote for the Corbeau Forza.

The Forzas are very comfy, good quality, and inexpensive. We run the Forza XL since a couple of us have gotten a little wider of beam as we aged.  We already ordered another one for our second car.

Our sliders seems to get stuck/bend as well.

+1

We like having a full-containment seat. Super affordable. Got it on sale for $509 brandy new. We got a 17" seat. Nobody on the team is very large. But the seat is easy to alter to fit various guys by putting pads between the cover and the seat frame. We added a pad for lumbar support for me. It is also adjustable for height. Lastly, you can buy a very nice aluminum bracket for it that gives you the foundation for a seat-back brace. Spreads the load out across the back of the seat. Feels very safe and secure.

The only criticisms are that a few of us are pretty tall. I am long-legged. It does not provide good support under my legs. I wish it had a longer seat bottom.  It is probably not the easiest seat to get in/out of. As I get older, I imagine I'l have some difficulty with it.

Re: Driver Seat Roll Call

I picked up a Bimarco 'Hummer' (good luck saying THAT with a straight face...) and have been very happy with it. You order from eBay and they ship from Poland on a slow boat, but they DO arrive and they ARE legit. By far, the least expensive composite containment seat on the market.

If you are worried about certification, there is an FIA certified version (the Bimarco 'GRIP') for an additional ~$150 IIRC that is otherwise identical to the non-certified version.

Re: Driver Seat Roll Call

We are running the Momo Daytona XL in our Miata.  It is more than I wanted to spend but comfy.  I was going to go with a cheaper seat but I ran into fitment issues.  I was lucky that there is a racing shop close to home that let me try out the seats as the cage was being built.  Nothing against the Kirkey seats but it's not what I was looking for.
