Topic: Need help

Hello everyone,

Just wandered if any of you have suggestions for a steering wheel disconnect, some of my team myself included would benefit from the extra room to get out of the car. I suppose a few less burgers would help too, but this gives me an excuse to drool over parts. Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: Need help

My go to is a racetech one.  They dont sell them in the us but you can get them at https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/ra … m-rp-rtq72

They have zero slop and only go on one way so the wheel doesn't need to be lined up before you take it off,

the next best option imo is the rennline tapered one but its 3 times the cost.

They new gen r from NRG might be a cost effective option looks similar to the rennline in design.  but i dont trust the ball style ones from NRG or ebay that all the "tuner" kids use,  they are heavy and i see videos of them coming off more than id like.

Re: Need help

The NRG seems pretty solid on my car.  Always goes back on in the correct direction.

We went with this one: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/joe-13402

And we use it with these two wheels:

Re: Need help

I can't reccomend any specific brand, but once you get a quick disconnect, that gives you the option of using different steering wheels...
One for the 'larger' drivers, and one that is more deeply dished for us more 'slender' drivers....
It's all about driver comfort,ya know.....

Re: Need help

We just got a a cheapy from a semi-local circle track place.  No one on our team has come up with a valid reason the wheel going on in the same position would have in an endurance car would be helpful...though I assume there is one.  None of our cars can use anything but a weld on adapter (OK, maybe the Camero) so just knowing we can get another hub for for not much money at any point for our new poor life choice.

Most of our slop is in the rest of the steering system anyway.

Re: Need help

Hey we only ran one race so take anything I say with many grains of salt....Anyhow I put a super cheap removeable wheel adapter  ( the type with 6 sides and the silver release button that cost like $ 30) and I hated it.  I think they use them for destruction derby's. There was just a lot of play. It was awful. And my standards are pretty low. (Maybe I got a bad one or put it on wrong?)

I just I cut it off and put on a $ 60 unit  that is splined and has a center release ring that you squeeze with both hands . It was much better.

To be honest I didn't think it was worth it for me. It does make a little more room when getting in and out , but on the one I ended with you have to play with it a little bit to get it on . ( the tolerance's are pretty tight )  . Normally its just easier to get in and out and leave it alone.

Because my car is street driven I  also had to relocate the horn button and now the turn signals don't self cancel anymore.

Good Luck!!
