It's a bit more nuanced than that (which may be a Lemons first). HQ is waiting to ban SA2010 helmets until the SA2020 helmets are readily available, for some definition of "readily available." Nick has suggested that one practical consideration will be the point at which they can be reliably supplied via the Lemons storefront. On the off chance that this doesn't happen right away, it may very well turn out that SA2010 helmets will still be okay for the first race or so of 2021. Essentially they don't want anyone to feel forced into getting a "temporary" SA2015 just because they can't yet easily take possession of a SA2020.

I haven't been following the supply question closely, so I don't know where any of this stands as of right now.

Re: Helmet certification for 2021

Sa2015 or sa2020.

I would not show up a 2010 helmet.

My teammates will not be using 2010 helmets.

I would not feel comfortable spending all this money, and being turned down at Tech for something as simple as a 2015 or 2020 s a helmet

Re: Helmet certification for 2021

Personally, I dont marinate my head in the same helmet for 10 years.  I only go 5 years with a helmet so dont see the point in waiting for a 2020 one.

Haven't yet bought a helmet - is there no removable liner in these?

Re: Helmet certification for 2021

There are some good deals to be had on 2015 now as well. I'm in the 5 year camp I can buy a better 2015 for the same money compared with a 2020 and I don't want that thing on my head for 10 years!

Re: Helmet certification for 2021

One of the other series just extended their SA-2010 helmets out to June 30 2021 due to COVID related shortages of SA-2020s. This could become a trend if there really is a shortage.
