Topic: Who Do You Use to Ship Cars?

I need to ship a car from Irvine CA to Pittsburgh.  I am polling our very helpful community for ideas.
Thank you!

Re: Who Do You Use to Ship Cars?

The gold standard is outfits like Horseless Carriage, Montway, Reliable, FedEX (yes, they ship cars).  You pay gold standard prices for it.  The rest are mostly brokers and it's a total crapshoot.  I've had everything from super timely and communicative to silence until it arrives a day earlier than they said and I need to come meet them to sign for it right now to one company that lost the car for 6 weeks.  Some do go above and beyond.  I had one hotshot guy bring me 3 very long parked Triumphs where the tires didn't hold air, etc and he went way above and beyond to help me get the cars off the trailer and into the side yard.  I wish you luck.

Re: Who Do You Use to Ship Cars?

I'm in a similar but opposite sailing direction boat currently. I have a car in North Canton Ohio that I need shipped to Irvine area. I'm currently trying to use Uship.com and have used that website before (years ago) with varying degrees of success. I believe most of the shippers on the uShip end are merely brokers who, once you accept their bid, then repost the listing on their own professional internal listing for the actual truckers (Central Dispatch??). It seems uShip is a middleman spot, but it has worked for me.

The person on the pickup end for me dropped the "I'm going to be out of town from 26th-2nd" bomb on me so my uship listing is proving to be useless at this point. The shippers bidding don't "Guarantee" a pickup date. From the aforementioned Montway "Please keep in mind that our dates are only estimated and not guaranteed! We can typically arrange for the pickup within 1-5 days, depending on the location of your vehicle."

I'm willing to pay someone $1200 to bring the car to SoCal (not picky on where I meet them) so if you find someone willing to haul your car from SoCal to PA and wants a guaranteed $1200 paying haul back the other direction, I'm your guy.

Re: Who Do You Use to Ship Cars?

How big/roadworthy/etc is the car going east?

Re: Who Do You Use to Ship Cars?

I've used https://www.uship.com/ with success.

Re: Who Do You Use to Ship Cars?

Don’t use the Russians who tried to take off with my 380SL when they had been sent to get my 280SE.

Depending on how punctual you are, you might do OK with the guy who showed up to pick up my 500SE in SoCal 15 min after the request for a pickup was put out there.

(I’m aware that this is not acutally useful info, but you reallly don’t know what you’re gonna get with shippers. BTDT!)

Again, auto transport companies are a total crapshoot.  Every review on this site for Zen is bad including one where they scraped some poor dudes car off the top rack because the driver went under a low bridge and another where the oil pan on a 30 mile Porsche was broken.  On both they denied responsibility.
