Topic: 2021 Rust Belt Ramble

Hello everyone!
A bunch of friends and I (from the Rad Rides Facebook group) are planning on attending the Rust Belt Ramble.
Are there any additional details about the meetup/agenda, route, what to expect, etc? (this is all new for us) We would like to start planning logistics and time-off. Where and when are we meeting on Friday? When does it officially end at Mount Washington? (return trip will be ~8 hours) Also - Any pointers and recommendations for this event are appreciated. smile
thanks!
Andy

Re: 2021 Rust Belt Ramble

You will get the route book when you meet up at the Bafflingly STILL TBD? Start.

Seriously.....WTH fellas? Month out and you still don't know where you're starting?

I can tell you Cleveland to Pittsburgh is a 2 hour drive on a direct route, one would hope for a more fun route, I would assume 5 hours?

Also Sorry they brought you guys in to the Comfort in Downtown Cleveland, Parking is stupid, Public Square is a perpetual Mess, and they seem to have a dysfunctional predilection to shitty casinos. Most of the food around there is GARBAGE and Overpriced.

Your best bet is the Winking Lizard Tavern IF they have enough space on a Saturday Night in the middle of July.

Since they give away the Rally Route Book for Free on Instagram even though you paid for it. I may meet up with you through the Ohio sections. If anything just to ridicule their choices.

If the USS Cod is a rally checkpoint, boy do we have a surprise for you guys....

Re: 2021 Rust Belt Ramble

Sounds like some folks have their expectations set a few notches too high?  smile

You'll get the info you need by the time it happens. Planning ahead of time for these things is kind of futile.

As for when it ends, I expect it will end when everyone gets there. Which could be hard to predict. If there is an a award thingy at the end, then they'll probably make the last day's adventure such that you can get done in enough time to make the long drive home before the sun comes up again.

Have fun, I'll be envious the whole time...

Re: 2021 Rust Belt Ramble

I kinda figured that planning might be futile and defeat the point, however most of my team is gainfully employed and at a minimum needs to be able to tell their employers whether or not to expect them at work on Monday... wink

Re: 2021 Rust Belt Ramble

They've generally made the last day relatively easy, so you should expect to be on the road before dark.

And you can head home any time it gets to be too late for comfort, too.

Welcome to "Lemons ends up in City of Chicago Purgatory." This was in an email that went out last week to those who are signed up. If you missed it, staying in the Hammond/Valparaiso general area should get you within a reasonable drive of the starting place Friday morning.

And anyone OK with giant dogs that have their quirks since I rescue the unadoptables, a swamp if it keeps raining and a house I cannot be bothered to remodel until I make it level...I have like 1800 sq ft of floor and at least two daybeds.  Other Rally participants have crashed here in the past.  Parking is not a concern and I am (because it is across from my work when I went into the office) 22 minutes from the starting line if Eric goes with the Mascot Hall of Fame.

And Parking is not an issue...with enough warning to drag hoopties onto swap from asphalt.

At the recently-completed Pacific NorthWrecks Rally we were told to be at a certain pizza place by 6:00 PM for the awards. All but one of the surviving teams made it there approximately on time but I'm pretty sure most ended up skipping a couple of stops to do so; I know we did. Everything was wrapped up by something like eight-ish, I think, but I wasn't paying close attention to the time.

In a refreshing change of pace, home was only three hours away afterwards.

That depends. How do your teammates feel about an eight-hour drive through the night just before going to work and how likely is your vehicle to make that trip without additional delay(s)? I scheduled the following day off out of an abundance of vehicular caution and/or pessimism as well as for the chance to spend a bit more non-rally time with my co-driving niece before taking her to the airport.

I only know what I see on your OFFICIAL web site. Just like any one who hasn't registered for the event yet.

Also did you have a plan for parking in Ohio City on a Saturday Evening in the middle of summer?

.

At $500 an entry, I don't think they do.

Re: 2021 Rust Belt Ramble

I always find that the entry fee is a minor part of my overall Lemons rally experience expense. I guess if you are in a different situation, then you would see it differently. Lucky you!

I received no such email.  I double-checked, and I know my email is correct since I got the confirmation of registration, and the notification that my teammate joined my team.

I'm getting all my updates from checking the rally page on a regular basis.  I've booked rooms at the recommended hotels, two nights at a motel 6 near Hammond, two tickets to the Baseball game, and two tickets on the Detroit Bus tour.  Don't know how much more prepared than that one team can be right now.

LOL I see what you mean about the Cod.  Thanks for the heads-up.

Re: 2021 Rust Belt Ramble

To those coming  to this rally be aware that there's road construction on I-80 in the Hammond, IN area.
Traffic can back up for miles in either direction depending on time of day, etc. If coming from the east you can get off early and take US Rt 20 into Gary, IN. If going east from IL to IN. then doing it off hours  is best as there's no good alternate routes. The alternates fill up with traffic trying to avoid the back up and you don't save any time using them. Coming from the south, use I-65 N, both  I-55 or I-57 merge into I-80 so they just route you into the back up.

Re: 2021 Rust Belt Ramble

Hey everyone, just signed up for this as my first Lemons Rally! I was also going to buy tickets for the RailCats game on the 23rd, but I noticed the game time on the RailCats website (7:10 central) doesn't match what's on the Lemons website (12:10 central)...does anyone know what's going on with that?

Hi Everyone!

Boyfriend/Girlfriend Team First Timers! We are the Royale Rockets and we will be sporting a 1983 Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale, with fabulous bondo spots scattered on the sides. We are super excited to be joining everyone on this rally tour!!

I’m Brandy with a y like the drink or the song (hence the username I’m real original) and my ride or die (wow takes a whole new meaning in this context) is Steve. We’re not sure how early we’ll get out there on Thursday so still TBD on the baseball game. We will most definitely be attending the potluck as I enjoy all the pot and luck I can get.

Feel free to link up with me on IG @brandyjoshmoe
Steve does not have an Instagram based solely on principal

We are super excited to meet everyone and have a real adventure on this rally.

EDIT: Sorry! I misunderstood another post regarding a Potluck. Disregard the potluck comment lol. Let me know if others are up for a meet up though!

Did I miss something in the email about a potluck?
