Topic: Transponder Power Question

We have our first event coming up next week at Autobahn, and we cannot wait!!!  Does the transponder need power from the car or are they battery powered?  I don't have anything to plug one into currently in the car, and I recently watched a race wrap up where a team was turning the car off and on to resolve an ECU issue and was killing power to the transponder as they crossed the start line.  Thanks!

Re: Transponder Power Question

The transponders provided by Lemons have their own internal batteries. Some teams use their own transponders, some of which require external power.

1982 MG Metro 1300: IOE 2015 Pacific Northworst GP, Longest Distance 2010 Cd'L Box Wine Country Classic
1980 KV Mini 1: Worst of Show and Fright Pig Supremo 2009 Concours d'Lemons
1978 H Special: Second-Round Elimination 2010 Lemons Pinewood Derby at Sears Pointless
1967 SAAB 96: IOE 2012 Pacific Northworst GP, Organizer's Choice 2022 Hell on Wheels California Rally

That's perfect!  Appreciate it!

Re: Transponder Power Question

Battery powered.

That said, please, please follow these easy instructions and apply a mount appropriate to do so now, or come by our paddock after you get the transponder for help:

less that 12" from the ground unobstructed
Mounted vertically
Protected from impact damage
SECURELY mounted in case of an off road excursion

No idea what car you have but a commonly good location is the rear of the spare tire well.  You drill 4 holes in the sheet metal for two ziptie locations after you get the transponder.  Then you use at least 6 high quality zipties to attach it...two through each mount the way you would think, two diagonally, two more holding the transponder onto its own mounting plate.  Is this overkill...no.  Replacing it is over $300.

FYI, we will be close to the timing tower, on the track side with the black 1995 Camero sporting weird stuff sticking out of the hood.  Red Ford F250 and generic white enclosed trailer.  Seriously, come by.  Too many newbie teams get this wrong when it is so easy to get right.

There's a sheet of paper we include with the transponder. Read it.
