Topic: Fire Suppression System

What is everyone using for Fire Suppression systems? I found this one on Pegasus Racing: https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produ … RecID=7024

Does anyone have experience with this system?

Re: Fire Suppression System

Looks like that is a halon style (but not actual halon). Few things to consider, the recharge/recert costs of that kind of system can be higher. There is some debate to whether it can introduce a breathing problem while you're trying to escape the car because it's a system designed to starve the fire of oxygen. That may be an overblown problem, may not be, I'm not enough of an expert to weigh in any farther than saying I see the argument come up from time to time.

We use an AFFF system, which is a foam agent. Cheap to refill and recert. Was a little more expensive up front compared to your linked system. Believe it is this system.

Thanks for the info! I'll keep those factors in mind.

Re: Fire Suppression System

So this AFFF system should work just fine, right? https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/produ … ecID=25874

I see that it is 4.25 L, but I don't know what the means in pounds...

Re: Fire Suppression System

Sorry, I think I answered my own question. It appears to be fine since the Lemons store is selling a 4L system.

Re: Fire Suppression System

4L+ systems are fine, they equate roughly to a 10lb system.

Re: Fire Suppression System

Might score a deal here if you haven't seen it.

recert required in 2022, so factor that in to your decision.

Your location says SF Bay. You might want to check if that can be refilled locally.  The SPA systems can be refilled and certified at Sonoma raceway.

I was at Sonoma Raceway this past weekend, and one of the people working in the shop told me that they don't refill fire suppression tanks at the track anymore, but there is a local company that does it in Lafayette.

Re: Fire Suppression System

That would be I/O Port Racing.

The cheapest I've found is here.  They are cheaper to refill than Pegasus (only $95) and they don't require the hazmat shipping fees.  https://racingfiresystems.com/index.php/store/

That's good to know. I am considerably closer to I/O Port Racing than Sonoma.

Thank you for the link, but I think I'm going to just get one in person. Factoring in shipping it's about the same price locally, and I get the satisfaction of having it in hand immediately.
