Yes, this is a real thing. Chad from Johnny Lightning says they're fixing to have them on the shelves in the first quarter of 2022, so look for another announcement after New Year.

"Fittingly slotted into Johnny Lightning’s 'Street Freaks' series, the first 24 Hours of Lemons model is Midwest team Stain Your Lane’s cheetah-print Honda Civic, a suitably disreputable way to kick off the collection. New models will be added regularly so you can quickly fill up your display shelf with motorsport mediocrities. (You’re welcome.)"

Or a hammer and some snips and sandpaper. Which I may or may not have done to a NASCAR Hot Wheel to make it look more authentic.

Re: Johnny Lightning Diecast Lemons!

Really interested to see some of these, esp being fairly new to the series I'll have to collect these "classics"

Surely the flying pig will have one?

Since y'all hang out on the forums with ALL OF THE INSIDER INFORMATION, here are the general stipulations/parameters we have to work within:

- Johnny Lightning isn't going to make any brand-new molds just for Lemons cars. So what they've made before is what our options are for the cars. They've recently started adding more import molds, which is good, but there are basically no Euro imports right now.

- For the time being, Johnny Lightning aren't able to alter the molds much to include objects outside the stock body line. That was mentioned as a possibility (far) down the line, but expect the first few will be "stock" body configurations with good paint schemes.

- The molds are also subject to approvals from the original OEMs with the license. In other words: The original carmaker has to say "Yes, you can use this mold with the 24 Hours of Lemons" name. Honda is apparently easy to work with. Some of the other OEMs are not and just won't allow any Lemons associations with their name.

- Even if the OEM approves the mold in principal at the start, they still have to approve final artwork, too. Considering these are ultimately toys that kids might end up with, the themes can't be too non-family-friendly, either.

That's a fairly narrow set of parameters, but there is one already approved for the next JL release. I've got a good idea what I want for a third release, but it depends on what else JL is releasing at the same time because they won't want to have a two of the same make/model in a release if they can help it.

So if you've got ideas, take a look at what they've made in the past and see if that's even available as a starting point: http://www.jlcollector.net/

They've done a fair number of the old Beetles so the Super Beetle kicking around the Northeast for the past few years would be fair game and doable. I just haven't seen it lately so maybe its not on the list.

The "Index by Name" drop-down has all the different models listed out.  Easier to go there than dig through the other drop-downs.

Their MGB isn't a rubber-bumper model but it's not like the ZomBee is known for having a front bumper anyway:

Hmmm, I see they have a New Beetle.  Wonder if they'd do a "Cosmo Beetle"?

Re: Johnny Lightning Diecast Lemons!

I already see some great ones.
RX-7
Datsun Z
240SX
Integra
NB Miata
HHR
Some heavy 70's iron.
Multiple flavors of Mustang

I look forward to collecting these. And wonder if that Thunderbird stock car is close enough to count.....

Hopefully the proper color car isn't a "Chase Figure"

the Zombee is a must.

If at all possible, it needs to be packaged vertically on its nose.

Re: Johnny Lightning Diecast Lemons!

Stan.  I thought the same thing.  There is no way they will do a Cosmo Tire Beetle.   Lemons is sponsored by Yokohama.   There is no way Jay and Nick will make your car.  On the other hand,,,, there is no reason we cant all buy a few matchbox cars, paint our color schemes on them, and trade, race and collect them at events

The second Lemons Johnny Lightning has been announced: Thin Blue Swine's Ford Thunderbird. Still waiting on logistical issues for the first Honda Civic to hit the shelves, but stay tuned.
