Re: New Jersey (Lemons) Drivers....

From a quick, cursory review of the first list of videos, I think I counted:

1. one car spinning out 4 times, and

2. a different car involved in 2 collisions

I know the track is in New Jersey, but geez, ya don't have to drive like you're from there.

Yes, I know: I spun at NJMP; but I had a little bit of help to do it ;-)

Re: New Jersey (Lemons) Drivers....

Here's some incar footage from Sunday from the Turtle Eclipse of the Heart.

We must have had a bad batch of brake fluid because we battled with a soft pedal for both days despite bleeding the system 3 times... with the same can of fluid.

We had Chris Fix stuck behind us for about 30 minutes on Sunday so I'm hoping the turtle at least gets a cameo in his video.

We were using ATE 200. There was still some of the Super Blue in the lines prior to the race. Come to find out after the fact that the "new" bottle was at least 5 years old. It had been sealed though.

We spoke to a few other teams after the race and they all suggested switching to Motul RBF 600.

If there's a silver lining, our rotors look brand new and we barely used up any of the brake pads.

The gas pedal worked just fine of course, but we had to lift early for the corners and pump a few times to get pressure, which meant we couldn't really get too aggressive with any deep inside passes, or we risked colliding with the car on the outside.

Did you use a power bleeder like a Motive?  I could not get the squishiness out of my car without it.

This seems to be a poor choice by the camera car.

Re: New Jersey (Lemons) Drivers....

"Vortex of Danger" definition video.

On each of the 13 previous laps (by video audio) the driver lifted earlier, scrubbed off speed earlier going into the corner, and several times waited for the other cars (Merkur?, BMW?) in front.

The one time the driver went into the corner faster they took the outside.

I would _expect_ the BMW to dive for the apex - they were well ahead, and only slow because of traffic ahead; they _flew_ by on the straight just prior.

Look further ahead when possible - like going into this corner.

Looks like the camera car is at fault here.  You don't "own the corner" if you are at the other cars rear bumper.  Maybe overly aggressive due to who he was racing?

Re: New Jersey (Lemons) Drivers....

+1 on the textbook vortex of danger. I found myself pressing the brakes from a computer screen. Chris's BMW could have checked mirrors before turn in, and still gotten in that accident. Camera car was nowhere near owning that line before turn in and nothing ever gets better closer to the apex.

Re: New Jersey (Lemons) Drivers....

Why would the camera car dive for that apex when the BMW was clearly much faster, and would have passed him back in the next 1.5 seconds?

I'd have to say if I was in the BMW and passed that late, I would have left room for the camera car 'just in case'. On the flip side, if I was driving the camera car, I would have assumed the BMW would go for the apex, so I would have just let him have it.  Live to fight another day instead of trying to win it all in one corner.
