Topic: Hell on Wheels California 2022

The most important part of prepping a Lemons race car for a Lemons rally is repainting the faded and/or peeling numbers, I hope.

Re: Hell on Wheels California 2022

I made it to San Luis Obispo which means there's a fair chance I'll at least start the rally. This'll be my fourth, so my goal is to do the entire rally in a single vehicle under its own power. I've accomplished each of those separately but never all three at the same time. Think big, I say.

Done! Admittedly I skipped a few checkpoints along the way due to time-speed-distance calculations, as they say in the rally biz. Mostly it came down to the "speed" part.

Re: Hell on Wheels California 2022

I did the math on fuel/oil/miles. I got 20 mpg, but used oil at a 40:1 ratio. Worse than a 2 stroke!

Re: Hell on Wheels California 2022

On the various stages I got between 20 and 25 mpg, depending on topography, and ran at 50:1. If you want to feel better about your numbers, though, just have a look at the price of any of the reasonably decent synthetic two-stroke oils. I use Red Line snowmobile oil and although it's possible to use the cheaper stuff, that also means using more of it per gallon of gas, so in the end it's more or less a wash on cost.
