Topic: Race a Shelby, $3,000 (Houston, TX) - SOLD

Now that I have your attention...no, the above is not false advertising.  We all know that all that stuff ole' Carroll did with Ford is just marketing fluff.  The real magic happened when he teamed up again with Lee Iacocca over at Chrysler.  One of the many outcomes of that historic relationship was the notorious Daytona Shelby Z.  What did the Z stand for?  Well, kids, in the late '80s the Z stood for awesome - so....yeah.  Anyway, here's your chance to race a piece of automotive history and tell your friends and family you race a Shelby (or say you race a "Z", because that works too).  In the end....you can't be responsible for their assumptions from that point forward.

Okay, on to the serious stuff.  I have this posted on racingjunk for a pretty high number.  I have since become more motivated to clear out the garage for the next thing.  I am posting what I think is a reasonable price here, but we can discuss if you have cash....

The car comes with the 1988 2.2L (TII) turbo engine with intercooler. In addition, it has the A555 6 speed transmission with a brand new clutch. I've raced this car three times at MSR Houston and once at Eagles Canyon.

Here's the good:
With the updated wheels and tires along with the poly bushings up front, the car handles good for it's age on track. It is relatively balanced and resists the tendency to oversteer.  Straight line speed won't win you any races with high powered cars, but will keep you in the hunt with other class c competitors.

Here's the bad:
I was never able to keep the car cool enough. I bought and installed a massive radiator with a high capacity fan - but have never raced with it. I really believe that will help. Also, this car DOES NOT RUN right now. The engine that is in it will need to be pulled, inspected, and rebuilt.  I had it running, but somewhere water is getting into the cylinder.  The power components (pistons, rods, bearings, crank, etc.) are all new, but somehow water is getting into the cylinder - but I don't now if it is coming from the head or the block. In either case, you have all the components listed below to put together a strong engine.

In addition to the rebuild, the following parts/mods have been completed:
-Professionally built custom cage by Apex Auto Works (Alvin, TX)
-Kirkey racing seats (belts have expired)
-Lemons legal fire suppression system
-New clutch
-PT valve lifters for better throttle response, in spare head
-F2 performance cam and lifters from FWD performance on installed head
-BOV
-MBC (not installed)
-Baffled oil pan on spare engine
-High flow oil pump
-Relocated intercooler to make room for a much larger aftermarket aluminum radiator
-High flow radiator fan, hard wired to battery for max amperage (fused circuit w/ relay and in-car switch)
-Kill switch
-16" aftermarket wheels with 225/50 BFG g-force Comp 2 tires (one race)
-Stainless steel braided brake lines
-Aftermarket oil pressure gauge installed
-Aftermarket boost gauge
-Poly bushings installed on front suspension components
-Rear swaybar replaced
-High-flow 255 lph fuel pump
-Battery relocated to trunk
-AEM Failsafe AFR gauge

The sale price includes all new/used spare parts along with original equipment. Note that this is in addition to the parts already installed on the car, so these are truly spare parts. Most of these I purchased over the years to ensure I got free shipping from places like Jegs/Summit/Rock Auto. The below parts are new unless noted otherwise:
-Complete spare engine (block & head)
-Multiple sets of front and rear brake pads and a set of front calipers
-Spare Chrysler SMED, used (computer)
-Multiple seal & gasket sets including head gaskets
-Rear main seal (x 2) amd front crank seal (x5)
-Misc. Head & Valve Train Components
-Misc. Sensors
-Misc. Distributor & spark components
-Block and Crank Components including extra con-rods, pistons, rings, bearings, etc.
-Misc. Belts
-New front wheel hub with bearings and extended lugs pressed in already
-Adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Finally, the car itself is insured and has a transferable title in Texas and has antique plates that expire in April 2023, so it can be driven on public streets (with certain restrictions) – but I wouldn’t count on driving it far without catching attention. I've never been harassed about it.

I am selling everything together, but here's how I figure the sell price:
-$300 - Car
-$1500 - cage
-$1200 - wheels & tires and spare parts listed in this post

(PS: I did post this a few years back and pulled it. It is for real this time.)

This is a helluva deal for someone who wants to chase Class C or an IOE.

You can also increase your IOE chances by throwing a non-turbo Chrysler four-banger into it from something like a base-model Acclaim. It'll be (a little) slower, but the heat should be slightly more manageable.

It sure is!  I just moved it to storage, last weekend, so I am interested in having it gone.
