I understand the gap between the ends of the bars where it mounts to the main hoop and front uprights.
But was wondering when you do the two bent tubes then weld and gusset them together. 1? How high above the sill should a guy aim for and 2? Where should a guy have the middle of the x at? Some where near your knee? Mid thigh? What spot have u found best for egress?
A lot of this is egress determined for your car if you are doing X bars as you seem to indicate. In a Minivan with really tall doors and high seating position, we shot for about Crown Vic bumper height. In our Esteem, that would have been too high.
If you are running a coupe, consider nascar bars instead and have them go all the way to the outer door skin. Egress limitation at that point only an issue if the top bar is almost at the window sill.
