Topic: FALKEN AZENIS RT615K+ 215/45R16

Has anyone used these tire on a 6 1/2" rim?  The specs say 7" minimum wheel. Unfortunately, we only have 6 1/2" rims. Any thoughts?

Philip

I've pinched a 205 on a 6", so I'm pretty sure a 215 will pinch on a 6.5"... it was very tight though.

With that said, I'd avoid it... get a wider wheel or a narrower tire. Generally speaking... 205 is fastest/happiest on 8, 225 on 9, 245 on 10. The 7turdy5i came with 245 pinched on an 8 and the sidewall would buckle mid corner causing the handling bias to flip between oversteer/understeer mid corner and the outside edge wore very quickly.

tl;dr: don't do it... your handling and tire life will suffer.

Thank you for your experienced information. We have decided to stay with our smaller tires and wheels.

Here's more info on your tire.  Your wheel width being >1" narrower than the tread width is significant.  You'll be faster and have more predictable handling if you can find a similar 7.5" or 8" wheel.  I also suggest changing your wheel size. 16" wheels will limit your options, as you know.

I won't give away too many secrets, but all that sidewall is going to flex.  Did you race at THill last week?  How did they wear?  Another team I was helping was very happy with the performance of their 615K+.
