Topic: On fire at the B.F.E. GP 2024?

On fire at the B.F.E. GP 2024?

So you’re on fire at the 2024 B.F.E. GP.

Your first question should be: “Why did I agree to do a 24 hour race in a certified crap can in the first place?”

Your next question should be: “How do I fix this situation?”

We can’t help with the first question (but we know a good therapist).

As for the second question, stop by RV spots 05 and 06 and we’ll see what we can do to help.

We have:
•    A welder (with a somewhat qualified person to weld).
•    Air rivet gun.
•    Small air compressor.
•    Diesel generator.
•    A box of random nuts and bolts (guaranteed not to have the size/pitch you need).
•    A box of VW-specific nuts and bolts (see above disclaimer).
•    A somewhat organized box of electrical connectors and wire.
•    Some random Mark IV VW parts.
•    The Mark IV VW Bentley Shop Manuals.
•    A laptop with a full version of VW/Audi VCDS and OBD II dongle.
o    We may be able to scan all makes/models for codes, but no guarantees.
•    A large selection of metric, standard, and specialty tools.
•    Standard and metric Tap & Die set.
•    Jacks and jackstands.
•    Engine hoist.
•    Shore power(!).
•    Battery charger.
•    Flood lights.
•    Sunscreen.
•    First Aid kit.
•    Fire extinguisher (in case you’re really on fire).
•    A former Ferrari, Porsche, Ford/Lincoln/Mercury, Lexus, Toyota, Honda, and International Truck technician.
•    A General Contractor and certified electrician (ask about remodeling your house).
•    An investment broker (he’ll help you make better financial decisions).
•    A dry, sarcastic sense of humor.

We’re happy to help as long as you’re friendly. Acceptable forms of payment are high fives, handshakes, or post-race liquid refreshments.

Oh, and if you happen to have a quirky, funny, ironic, questionable, or off-color sticker, stop by and slap it on the car. Just don't tell us about it (we like surprises).

Best of luck out there. See you at the track!

Re: On fire at the B.F.E. GP 2024?

I will shamelessly jump into this thread by saying that we (Turbo Encabulators, #314 Miata) are also very happy to help with things.

We will be in carport 3; feel free to stop by, we won't bite!

We're a group of electrical, mechanical, and software engineers, so in addition to a bunch of things like fasteners and Miata parts, we'll also have a lot of specialty tools and gadgets. When you see our car, you will no doubt be completely unsurprised to learn that we will have a wide assortment of electrical tools, supplies, and advice, too. I will also jinx us by noting that we generally really know what we're doing with radios and might be able to help you on that front.

Specific less-common tools that we will have that might be relevant/helpful:

- Various pullers (2-jaw, 3-jaw, blind, ball joint, bearing-separator-type, etc.)
- Hydraulic crimper (for things like battery lugs)
- Vise (albeit a small one)
- Thermal camera
- Engine ignition analyzer (GTC505)
- Oscilloscope
- Spectrum analyzer
- Soldering iron
- Helicoil assortment
- Blind rivet gun
- Vector network analyzer
- Fuel injection test lights
- Compression tester
- Endoscope (borescope)

...and a bunch of other stuff.

If we don't have the thing you need, there's a good chance we could direct you to someone who does!

Re: On fire at the B.F.E. GP 2024?

Team 95 will be slumming it out in the gravel with the rest of the non bougie racers in the car ports.....screw you guys and your trailers with 'matching tires.'

We don’t have any real skills (unless you count high mass flow rate consumption of ETOH), we are socially inept with mild cases of Tourette’s, and some of the team might have communicable diseases.  It’s probably best to keep your distance.  Also the only tool we bring is a BFH, so best to look elsewhere if you need real tools.

That said you may catch a glimpse, and whisper of hope in winning the Trophy we fabbed up from parts of our burnt down Pontiac.  “The Maximum Effort HPR Full 24” award.

You should keep equal distance from said car on track as well as it might also carry communicable diseases, or have charred parts fall off without warning.

There's a pretty good chance I'll stop by to use the Oscilloscope just for fun. I haven't used one since I was in school in Y2K (why am I so old?).

Carports 12&13, Savage Orchid Racing. Poklemons, can’t miss us. We are also happy to help! We have lots of tools, and know how to use  at least 76.62% of them!

And we have lots of stickers!

Re: On fire at the B.F.E. GP 2024?

Hoping the guy that asked me for fuel at 2:30a while I was elbows deep in repairing our car was able to get what he needed.

I wasn't a very gracious host at the point in the race...

Otherwise, thanks to all who stopped by. Glad we we were able to help a few; sorry we couldn't help all.

Thanks for the sneaky stickers! We'll see you all again in September.

Most of us have been there, and well understand the inherent risk associated with asking to borrow something from a team that is elbows-deep in an engine bay (especially at 2:30am).
