Topic: Fuel cell capacity

Hey I imagine this has been asked but search function doesn't get me what I want.

What is the real usable fuel amount in a 22gal cell?

What I mean is how much can you actually fill into it, and how much do you need to not fuel starve in corners (with hydromat or other pickup solution)

Example do you need to run with 3gal in the bottom and only fill 20gal with wasted space which would leave you 17 usable gallons?

Also this assumes a car that is reasonably quick in corners so generates decent g force.

Trying to decide if cell is worth it.

thanks!

Re: Fuel cell capacity

A hydro mat should let you run it dry and mitigate the effects of slosh... Which are already somewhat mitigated by the foam.

There's supposed to be a flap in the fill hole that means you can fill it to the top.

so far is about 18 gal out of 22 gal. need a swirl pot, hydra mat,  duck foot, or venturi pick ups to name a few to help with it. Also depends how it is installed.

Re: Fuel cell capacity

Cool that's ball park what I would have guessed, but wasn't planning on more than a hydromat.  Hope we don't need a swirl pot...

I noticed you said "or"  how many don't run dry things did you need?

I've never gotten full capacity out of a stock tank, we completely emptied it when we replaced the fuel pump, like dried it with paper towels dry, and then measured what we filled it and it overflowed the filler 1.5gals below spec.
I've always heard the cells lose some capacity from foam, fuel pickup sending unit ect
