Got me thinking, short of duct taping my iphone running QIK on the roll bar does anyone else run cameras and what do you run?

Re: In car video? What kind? Does anyone else use?

I use a regular old miniDV camera (mine happens to be a -edit- Canon). It records 60 minutes, although some can record in lower resolution for 120 minutes. I got an "extended battery pack" that's good for about 6 hours. I mounted to the roll bar with an IO Port camera mount, but some clever welding could eliminate that (I had access to a free one).

Look through the camera in the car before deciding where to mount it. Without a wide angle lens, you'll probably want it pretty far back so you can see the whole windshield. Seeing some on your hands is cool, too.

Tech will probably require a tether strap of some sort so that if the mount fails you don't get bonked with the camera.

I forgot all about the DVCam I got from work for free.  Sounds like a great place to use it.  I bet I could rig up a charger to keep it rocking. Change driver, change tape and so on...

Thanks for the input.

Now what would really be fun is a wireless cam so the team could watch the car on track back at home base...

Talk to the Tunachuckers about the $60 Costco camera they ziptied into their grille. The results were surprisingly good.

i use a GoPro camera for racing, autocrossing and mountain biking.   Works very well and you can get the craziest views and angles.

We use a miniDV with an external mic in the trunk. No wind noise like that. Used a AC/DC converter to power it, don't have to worry about batteries going dead.

Here's a clip from MSRH Oct. 08. At 1:40 is a 280ZX spin.  http://videos.streetfire.net/video/LeMo … 196914.htm

Re: In car video? What kind? Does anyone else use?

For BABE (sorry havent been on Lemons yet) I found a deal on Phillips media players with 30gb hard drives for $90 each, 2 of those and 2 $15 ebay bullet/security cameras and I have one in car, one external and both can record over 10 hours as long as I have them plugged in and not on battery.

Here's the on car video we shot running through deals gap in 08.  Quality is pretty good.  http://jimthwaite.com/video/Deals%20Gap/

If it's not too much trouble, could you please provide more detail on what Philips media player? The ones I'm seeing don't seem to do video record -- was there a hack involved (please say yes, I love teh hack). Cheers.

I don't know much about the system we are using, but it has two cameras and a G-meter.  We are planning on capturing the whole race.  Hopefully the night action can be seen.

This is one of the best systems out there.

A little pricy, but records onto flash cards and a 32G card can hold 8 hours of video.

Cheers,

Re: In car video? What kind? Does anyone else use?

I used to use a MiniDV camera.  It gets kinda shaky and is limited to 90 minutes.  Not good for Lemons use as you would have to switch tapes every driver change.

I switched to Aiptek Action HD for around $175.  It can record in 1080P HD and with a 16GB SD card it can record 8 hours in 720P HD, or 16 hours with a 32GB SD card.

Re: In car video? What kind? Does anyone else use?

Some good stuff here for sure.  I was thinking something like a wireless cam that the team could watch while a driver was on the track.  Maybe just a pipe dream.  I think I am going to go with a Canon DVCam running a SDHC.

Phillips PMC7230, they used to retail for 300-600 bux but refurbs are readily available in the $100 range now.

No hacking required...sorry sad
