Topic: Buttonwillow is less than two weeks away.... Why so quiet? (Crickets)

Are people still hammering on their cars? Or too busy hydrating for the 108 degree heat? Where is the smack talk?
Lets have some action on the forum.
Our Mazda 323 is pretty much done minus the vinyl graphics that will be here this week.  We worked on it last week for two straight days to finish things up.

Yeah, lots of "are you sure this will work?!?" action this weekend.
The Cavalier will be reborn for Buttonwillow! Well, most of the old car and a new body shell, anyways.

2007/2012/2013 Driver's Championship (what was I thinking!?) 142 races and counting.

We just won pole position, which means we all but have this race in the bag!

Bet you my story tops your story...

Our cage still isn't done. Lost our welder a week ago before much was notched. Good news is we got a pro to weld the cage up and he's also going to drive  (little bribe'n never hurt nobody). Should be done and secured to car by Tuesday, the day the engine can hopefully start going together because the piston wrist pin buttons will be done getting machined (the circlips were rotating in the pistons and threatening to punch out-- good thing we checked them). Had a second guys quit this week because of my poor management skills-- we convinced him to sign back up to drive because he's worked so hard on the damned thing. All will hopefully go together starting next weekend and if all goes well we MIGHT be able to drive it around the block once before heading up to the track... I won't even bother to run through all the family drama outside of the damned car and the countless house guests we have...

Why so quiet? (Crickets)

I am busy counting the oil drips coming off the jag and trying to determine if i really really want to fix them and Johnny Mag our leader is trying to schedule every shaman, witch doctor and religious healer he can find to bless the car and remove any curses that may have been put on it from the factory.

Also trying to get our Ebay cheapo nascar radiator and oil coolers to fit.

For Free Range Racing, it's cause everyone is working (you know, like jobs).  So much so that the car isn't done and hasn't been worked on much.  I've got commitment from one member to work on it next tuesday.  Yup, one day before we pack up and leave.

Third race, least prepared.  Weird.

Still have a few things to do but so far so good.  Had a chance to do the final checkout at Thunderhill last weekend with the National Corvette Museum/HOD event.  It's still running.  See you in 11 days!!!!!!

Do you know if the scavenger hunt photos are going to be posted anywhere?

Just got Friday off of work (when my team was accepted I didn't even have a job!). I test drove the car for the first time this past weekend. I can't f'n wait for this race! Really looking forward to a more open track and no contact, my last race was Altamont October 2007... demo-derby-parking-lot style.

Don't group me in with our group of slackers.... I've at least provided SOME level of support!

I'm waiting for someone to show up with the C.H.I.P's theme...

Re: Buttonwillow is less than two weeks away.... Why so quiet? (Crickets)

Got the cage ALMOST done. Still need the rear dog legs/diagonals and the cage welded to the shell, seat mounting tabs and 1 weld ground out and redone. Pistons/rods went back in the block last night (well, done at 2:43 this morning and then up with my son before 6:30!). Brake and some used suspension parts came in last night. Gotta put the head back together after lapping in valves and then mate the tranny to it. hopefully all of that powertrain stuff will happen tonight. Wiring scheduled for Saturday in addition to assembling the parts onto the caged shell. Hoping to fire up engine for the first time on Sunday. First drive likely won't happen until the track, though. Wish I had more reliable help.

Rollers are pretty lah-dee-dah.  We did some coloring on our car with a watering can full of paint.

Car to Pit telemetry (OBD2, GPS, and analog inputs) with little more than a phone, router, and laptop.  It's not MacGuyver, it's WifiLapper (forum | facebook)
